What Amp to Power
What Amp to Power
Ok, I need your opinions
I have 2 KICKER C124 Comp Series Subwoofers in a Kicker made ported box, and they are powered by Pioneer 2 Channel Amplifier GM5300T(760W). Now my problem is that I am not 100% satisfied with the way they sound. They sound clean and got OK Bass but I want a lil more better sound.
The question is do I need a better amp or better subs or both???
What amp do you guys recommend?? My budget is under 300.
Amp spec:
• 2 Channel Amplifier
• 125 watts RMS x 2 at 4 ohms (190 watts RMS x 2 at 2 ohms)
• 380 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode (4-ohm stable in bridged mode)
• CEA-2006 compliant
• selectable low-pass filter (80 Hz, 12 dB per octave)
• selectable bass boost (0, 6, 12 dB at 50 Hz)
• MOSFET power supply
• speaker- and preamp-level inputs
• fuse rating: 30A x 2
• 8-gauge power and ground leads recommended
• 14-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 11-13/16"D
Sub spec:
12" Comp series subwoofer.
4 Ohm Impedance
150 watts RMS / 300 watts Peak power
Injection-molded polymineral cone
Ultra length voice coil
High temp voice coil former
Rear cone brace
Polyfoam ribbed surround - double stitched
Marine ready
Nickel Plated Terminals
Frequency Response: 27-500 Hz

A new amp is not the solution here. If you go much more in power you are going to risk certain destruction of the subs. Your amp is rated at 125 rms x 2 and the subs are rated to a maximum of 150w rms each. If you try and throw more power to them and sustain the output to them, you will be buying new subs to match the new amp. You are probably close to the optimum for these subs if your specs provided are correct. Want more bass, change the box for different results. Really want more bass, change the subs, change the box, change the amp.
Depends on what your looking for. I know from experience those subs do the job for smaller system, someone that just wants to bump to their music. If you want more rumble, more loudness, then your going to need a new sub and box. If you want more clarity, say more thump instead of rumble, then you may have to change the box. Really depends on what your looking for. Your amp looks pretty solid to me, without getting into anything serious.
