what decks would you go with

well the 9255 is like..a mental SQ deck, and i'm not an SQ person. i chose the 955 over the 865, for bad reasons thigns like..the color, the music catcher, and cuz i wanted the top of the line, normal not sq deck, it puts out great sound none the less, and it's really user friendly. i choose the deck in general for the amp cancel, so that i can turn off my speakers when i burp my car, that way i don't need a speaker amp. my reasons suck i guess haha but hey i love the deck, it's treated me well, and i'm very hard on gear so this must be a tough deck.

What features/processing do you require the HU to perform for you or contain?
Crossover's (2 or 3-way) and slopes, EQ, preout voltage, Time alignment, MP3 capability, Detach face, etc.?
One I would be looking at closely is the Pioneer 880PRS. Tons of features at a great price. Good crossover, excellent EQ and time alignment, good preout voltage, detach face, classy look, and it won't break the bank.

personally i'm a hard core spl fella, so cross-overs aren't the biggest worry, i do like the high pass filters so my speakers don't play low and get injured. my pre-outs of course higher is better, this deck is great for them. it's got a nice classy look, plays mp3's of course thats a must, holds about 6 cd's in memory on the deck, it has time alignment..something i've never used before, i haven't played with the EQ's on it, as i'ts not my concern once again about sound quality..loud bass and enough treble to hear the voices and i'm a happy fella . things such as mp3 are a must, detach face is a must, a decent price and a decent look and i'm happy.

How bout this one: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X790. I just installed it a couple days ago and holy crap do I love it. It has seperate crossovers for fronts, rear, and subs (high pass = 40hz to 220hz, forgot the lowpass filter range but I have it set to 60hz). It has three 5 volt preouts and although sound quality is at the bottom of your list you will get it with this deck. Seriosly, i turned this beast on and WOW the highs were insane compared to my old pioneer deck. I haven't put in my new subs yet (finishing carpeting the box) but I am guessing I will notice a good difference in them too. Great unit and it didn't break my wallet ($240 off woofersetc).

^ out of that list there...... the Clarion DRX-9255 or the DRZ-9255 has the best SQ performance for the money.. and the Mcintosh pretty much has the best SQ but you pay for it.
