I quit this forum about a year ago. Was just on here testing something for a Mod, and noticed a post called "Whats the best sub"...Figured it COULDNT be true, since this is CCA and all, so I felt the need to reply.

Ok, bye now...See you next year, for my yearly 1 post quota.

Just screwin' around, really no one knows which subwoofer is the best...but there are a few that are very well known by enthusiasts and pros. You know most of them, jl, focal, image dynamics, etc... at least from a SQ point of view. Many Brand name subs are very good also depending on what you want and what you want to spend. I have always liked the sound of JBL, mtx and some Alpines. Just depends on what you want. Go out and listen to everything you can, then make up your own mind, they are for your enjoyment. Your taste in music is really no different than your taste in food, clothing, women or anything else for that matter.

depth of the woofer, required box volume, ported or sealed enclosure, the sound of the rest of our system will affect how the sub intigrates, and everyones favorite: how deep yor money bag is all affect the answer.
Your perfect sub could be a Audax in the dash or a Focal in the trunk...

^^^Nothing at all, I was being sarcastic as that's the first post I've seen recomending HiVi. I suppose I should be more explicite in my remarks. Both my Brother and my Father are involved with Swans/HiVi in China. Great product for the money IMO...

A bit of history on that woofer for ya.

Bob Carver designed a home theater sub in the mid 90s that had an extreme excursion small diameter driver and passive radiator mounted in a 1 ft3 box. It was tiny, and had incredible output. The driver was quite revelutionary, in that it was the first mass produced long excursion, large surround driver of the time. Today, it seems that everybody has adopted Bob Carver's design ideas including JL with their W7.

Using Bob Carver's subwoofer as a model, Swans designed a driver to work with approximately 1/3 the power, in a slightly larger box, producing the same output. This is the SP10.

Each SP10 driver is hand assembled in low quantities, with a multitude of QC checks covering materials, workmanship, and driver response. It really is a work of art. Nice recomendation!
