Will a sub make my music sound better???
My info...
Car - 2010 Jetta
I have replaced the front speakers with 2 way component speakers (JBL) and have components in the front and the stock speakers in the rear door powered by a 4 channel amp.
I have also replaced the stock headunit with a Kenwood Double Din DNX 5140.
I have recently been with the idea of "completing" my system by adding a shallow sub to the trunk of my car (my shop is recommending the 10" Kenwood excelon shallow with a excelon mono amp)
My question is........
I do get some bass coming out of the rear door stock speakers, enough to wonder if it is really worth my time and cost to add a sub to the system.
Will I get any appreciable gains in SQ?
I guessed that if I added a sub I would be able to set the crossover on my door speakers to cancel any bass freq. and will this also effect the SQ?
Long story short......
Is it worth it to add a sub??????

Just about every question u asked is based on what YOU want to hear while u drive.
"(1)I do get some bass coming out of the rear door stock speakers, enough to wonder if it is really worth my time and cost to add a sub to the system.
(2)Will I get any appreciable gains in SQ?
(3)I guessed that if I added a sub I would be able to set the crossover on my door speakers to cancel any bass freq. and will this also effect the SQ?

(4)Is it worth it to add a sub??????"
(1) depends how much time u do or dont have.... and how much money u do or dont have.
(2)u will get notes u didnt get before.
(3)i am not much for sq personally but u should'nt "cancel any bass", cause u wont get the higher end of the low.(not sure how to word that.)
(4)All depends if u are happy with what u have or u want alittle more kick.
im sure others will help u out alittle more but it looks like a whole bunch of personal preference.

My question, is it worth listening to crappy stock speakers that can't reproduce anything below 80hz? I would have to say no.
How about going to see a live concert, now when they rip your ticket at the door, also ask them to turn the crossovers up on the whole show so that you don't hear anything below 80 hz, now stand there for an hour and watch your favorite band, like they would sound in your grandma's car. You would be missing 2 octave's of music (20-80hz) and I would think you would be very disappointed.
So short answer, spend the money, get the sub, listen to the music

if its for a jetta why do u need to get a shallow sub? open up ur options more if u went with a regular sub.
also $850 does seam a bit much to me but when you calculate the box, amp wiring kit, amp, sub, and all the little bits and pieces needed that does seam to be a proper price.
