Just wondering what you SQ guys like to listen to..

to me theres nothing like the following played on a good SQ system..

Styx: Renagade, Too much time on my hands
Kansas: Carry on my wayward son
foreigner.. Genesis.. Police.. Rush..etc..
mostly songs with nice tight bass...

metallica - black

Enya seems to run the gamut of high to subsonic frequencies and the recordings are really clean. Evanescence has some really good dynamics as well. See if you can find the live recording of Bryan Adam's "Summer of 69"...works really well too.

Ross 02-15-2007 11:47 AM

Patricia Barber "Too Rich For My Blood"... cut 9 on "cafe blue"... SACD version

This is the song I test all systems by and can turn a non-SQ guy in to an SQ addict. :)

A great test of everything from dynamics, depth to transient response (drum passage at the end is something else)

Killer_klown187 02-15-2007 12:31 PM

phil collins, Feel it in the air tonight.. For some reason I cannot pass that song on the radio if I hear it, Up goes the volume no matter who is with me(thank god my kids are older, and don't live with me)

haha Wayne! same here! I love that song! One of my buddies always used to rave about it, so I sat down and listened to it one night cranked up as loud as I could stand

Ravemeister 02-16-2007 11:10 AM

Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" is a great recording!

paean 02-19-2007 04:03 PM

just about anything by massive attack should test the dynamics of your system.

Canadian86626 02-19-2007 05:37 PM

Over and over by Nelly and Tim Mcgraw, such tight bass!

syang3 02-19-2007 05:41 PM

A female vocalist from Taiwan called "Cai Cin" her CD is one of the reference cds amongst the audiophile community in Asia. It's musical, dynamic and full of emotions. One of her albums from 90's is still on my best demo list.

dogstar 02-19-2007 07:01 PM

I forgot to list Portishead and Delirium... Right there with Massive attack, any of them will give your system a good workout.

Fourplay - The best of Fourplay

an amazing album, from start to finish, if you havn't heard it, buy it, track 5 will give you shivers!

Just heard a track from a new disc that will be making it into my collection. I forget what it's called, but it's about 3 weeks old now, by a woman named "Georgia Fumanti"... best female vocal rendering I've ever heard, if your system can reproduce her voice without resonance, my hat is off to you.

UltraMax 02-26-2007 02:15 AM

Sassmaster, I bought that "Fourplay - The best of Fourplay" album. I love it!

One of my personal fav is Celine Dion's "Let's Talk About Love". Very nice recording, very good songs, and needless to say - excellent, excellent singing voice!

Creamedweasel 02-26-2007 09:26 AM

This thread needs more testosterone.

For lows and sweeping ranges I love my Crystal Method.
For highs and vocals I trust my White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.
For double kicks and how fast the subs react my drummer friend's test CD he burnt me, also good for testing high hats as well as how 'real' the speakers sound.

If you have a friend with a professional recording setup and an instrument of any sort, ask for them to test their full range and some happy melodies they like playing, you won't regret it when it comes to seeing how close your system can recreate it.

amplifreak 03-15-2007 01:16 AM

50 Cent fits pretty well with my ears. He keeps me awake!

^ yeah i agree, CBC (105.7 fm) is also the best sounding station and i believe 99.3 is the worst.... harshly compressed.

A-rock96 03-22-2007 09:29 PM

Rush YYZ has some awesome dynamics. Starts with the real highs with the chimes and some real tight bass from geddy's guitar and neal's drums. Actually the drum tracks on their live album "different stages" are well miked and sound real good. feels like i'm there!

not only that, their f***in CANADIAN!!!:cheeky4: :cAnada:

Starterwiz 03-23-2007 12:56 AM

Annie Lenox.
Diva, Medusa, Bare.
All three, or any one reveal a lot of flaws in any sytem.

clayboy 04-02-2007 11:10 PM

Fleetwood Mac

Tango in the Night CD from fleetwood Mac sounds amazing. Particularly tracks 4 and 5 if you have a good system listen for all the different sounds on track 5 see if you can hear the spoons( i think) being played mostly in the left channel. Not to bassy but great to absolutly crank and still sound crisp as I have ever heard. I heard that Dire Straits Brothers in Arms was really good to but haven't tried it yet. Anyone agree/disagree ??? The recording on the fleetwood mac cd is really good to with extremely low noise which is good for sq compititions I know i hated systems that before the song started or at any quiet parts it sounded as if the wind was howling inside the car.
