I've done a lot of searching on this issue. There are radio replacement modules made by scosche, Pacific accessory pac-audio.com, peripheralelectronics.com and some other offshore remakes.
Lots of options, take your pic.
Unfortunately, NoBody has made a module to replace the radio in my 06 MonteCarlo.... Yet. I miss my Alpine.....

Sorry but in Canada it is Illegal to remove the air bags. If a shop has certified a vehicle in Ontario that had a bag as standard equipment and it has been removed they can lose there license. Also even in you get in a minor fender bender and the bag deploys the insurance company will instruct the repairing shop to replace it and RE-Certifiy the vehicle. Sorry you have been misinformed. You are right if the vehicle never came equipt but the crash test safty standards work hand in hand with the SRS devises when rating . BTW did you mention there is a light on the cluster for people that are not blind?? You know blind people dont drive right?

From metra catalog:

2001-2004 Malibu

99-2001 mounting kit
GMRC-01 Harness with chime module
40-GM10 Antenna Adapter

This is the proper and easier way to go. Dont let people tell you that you can use a Tracker harness and so on. This is the safest. Maybe not the cheapest (Relocation Harness) but by far the easiest and safest. People say its the door chime you lose. By you lose that, Head light indicator when you leave them on, keys in the ignition and some feel there is other stuff tied in.

you may want to check with the mto
they told me that they are not required
i have also talked to many mechanics that phoned the mto and were told the same thing
seeing that most garages prefer to keep the ability to certify vehicles
Sorry you have been misinformed
so ask yourself this how is it that people are allowed to drive there vehicles with the air bag light on
you know really that would also be considered illegal as well
people should post what they know and not what they presume they know

You say to post what you know I have 5 friends that are class A mechanics and service managers in reputible shops and all say they will not certifiy a vehicle without them if equipt from the manufacture. Im sorry if you know shadey people that dont care about peoples safety. This is like saying that just cause a car came with seat belts it ok to remove them.

OK just got off the phone with the OPP and talked to my neighbour across the road that is with the MTO. Here is the scoop. Apparently it is not in the Highway traffic act that the removal is illegal. However the officer I spoke with said that there is a section about aftermarket airbags being illegal and or the installation of them and he saids its totally possible for an officer to use his/or hers discresion in charging and/or removing the vehicle from the road. He says if there is the code for the aftermarket airbag installation then he would take it there is also a code in place for removal. He also said it maybe that the shops that I am in contact with use there discresion an dont not want the liablity. So we are both right in a way. Then I spoke with the MTO officer and he stated that there is a code and a sub-section that states saftey equipment that is installed must remain in the vehicle. And if for instants you have a car that never had seatbelts and you install them. You are not allowed to remove them. There is a letter somewhere about installing a on/off switch for the bag for people that are pregnant and disabled but must be done by the dealer. This is all this info I could find and dig up.

you see the problem with aftermarket bags was that there was a problem a couple years ago
where they found that they were rebuilding them and not doing a proper job
im sure that is probably the reason for that

also airbags are a supplementry resraint device
they don't replace seat belts

and also you brought up the point of the secondary switch whats with that
you can turn if off simply by inserting and turning the key

p.s. the question on requiring a airbag made me wonder to until i asked around and found out exactly where the law stood

seatbelts probably save more lives than airbags
i live close to the 401 and you hear all the time of people being ejected from the vehicle

do you really think that has anything to do with the dinger
no it has to do with lazy idiots
newer ford only ding for a couple second then the dinger quits if you don't put your belt on

No I hear ya dude. Totally. Somewhere it also states that seatbelts are designed to work in conjunction with the airbag. So who knows its such a gray area right now. And yes in 2004 8700 people were saved using seat belts in Ontario and an addition 167 on top of that by airbag.
