06 Lumina install - any suggestions?
I will first apologize for my lack of knowledge... I'm a total n00b at this, so pleeeease forgive me
I have a 96 Lumina that I've been tinkering with for over a year now... nothing crazy at all, just trying to get the sound system to, well... sound like a system! LoL
I started out with 2 x 12" Comp Kickers in a ported box. The port was MASSIVE. Probably around 7-8" in dia. I was told they were 1000 watts, but back then, I didn't know anything so I really have no idea.
I've had several different boxes in my car since then... 1x12", 1x15", 2x15", 2x10" but nothing seems to satisfy my hunger for bass...
I now have 3 x 12" Lightning Audio SVC subs in a sealed box w/ Plexiglass front. I'm running an Alpine MRV K707 amp with a power cap.
I can't seem to get this thing to pound. I mean... this is probably the best it's ever sounded. It's loud, but I'm not really "feeling" it the way I expected. I recently took the 6x9's out which helped a bit, but I'm still left wondering what the hell I'm doing wrong. I've tried front facing, which was weak with the trunk closed, and pounded with the trunk open. My current setup is rear-facing. (sketch of box is attached)
I, unfortunately, can't find any specs on the subs... but based on other Lightning Audio subs, I would say they're probably 300 watts RMS each.
I was told by the person who did the initial install (my friend's husband), that I would never get these to pound because I couldn't drop the back seat down. Is this true? Does anybody have any suggestions?

I'm not too sure about the Lumina, but I had my 2x 12"s in the back of my Sunfire with the seats up and it could pound.
I just did a quick search and couldn't find the specs on the Alpine MRV K707 but I did find a T707 (not sure if they are similar) but if so, there isn't a lot of power there to begin with. Especially at ~300w x 3 subs.
Is that box designed to the specifications of the subs as well? Or a generic prefab?

Couple of possibilities:
1. Not enough power, your amp is 340W on a good day. With 3 subs you'll probably need more.
2. Maybe you expect lower bass than you're currently getting? You could tune the enclosure lower and then test with a song that is truely bass heavy at the low end of the spectrum.

Thanks for the responses!
I'm not sure whether the box was built to spec. It was purchased from a retailer so I'm assuming it is. But again, I can't find any specs on them so I really have no idea.
I'm going to try getting a more powerful amp. That seems to be the common response I'm getting.
Thanks again guys!

A bigger amp will push those subs to their potential but if it's huge bass you are after, you might want to look at upgrading those subs. Or definitely trying to figure out if that box is designed for those subs as most will tell you that is a key element!

I've taken those subs out of the box and looked over every inch of them... I haven't been able to find any specs or even a model number. I've also tried to find the exact subs somewhere online but haven't been able to do that either. Unfortunately, they were given to me by somebody who bought them from somebody else, who bought them from a store. And since I don't talk to any of these people anymore, I can't even find out which store they were purchased from.
I've had other subs, more powerful subs, which I was certain of the specs and certain that they were in the correct enclosure, but still wasn't able to get the bass that I wanted. I always just thought it was because of the car/trunk design.
I think maybe I'm just expecting too much outta what I have. I've never actually put money into any of this, so I get what I pay for I guess... LoL
It actually doesn't sound too bad right now... I'm just waiting to feel the hair moving/nose tickling that I've felt while in other people's cars. But I guess if I don't have specs, I can't really be sure that any of it's setup properly so I'll have to either deal with what I have, or start upgrading. But... I think I'll wait till I get a new car to do that.
