West 12" Kicker CVR

Hey guys,

one of my friends just bought a new sub and gave me his old 12" kicker CVR and I was wondering what Amp I need for it, he was telling me that I should probably get 400 Watt amp...

Anyway the fact of the matter is I know absolutely nothing about car audio and would like a to know what I amp I should get to power this sub.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Any mono amp up to about 600RMS should work just fine.

What are the coils on the sub? Dual 4 ohm? If so, you'll want to find an amp that does power around 400rms at 2 ohms.

how many sets of wire-connector terminals on the sub? Just one positive, one negative, or two sets?

Then its probably 4 ohm... Just search around the web for a mono amp that does around 400RMS at 4 ohms, and you'll see there's quite a variety for that range of power.

You probably can't go wrong if you get like a kicker zx (or kx or sx)... if you want to keep it in the family.

If you want to step it up a little and go with an amp that does good power at 4 ohms and nice power at 1 ohm (1500-2500RMS, in case you ever want to upgrade your sub for something a little louder) you could try a digital designs M2 or M3 amp.
