Question

Hi,

I own a base model 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt and I’ve been considering upgrading the factory stereo system. I have searched the internet but haven’t been able to find any information on the cars radio installation or wiring. The reason I want to know what I’m getting into is a salesmen at a Future Shop told me that my cars current deck will need to be relocated as it is required for the proper operation of the vehicles electrical system. Any help or information you guys could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Apolo.

you dont need to have it relocated thats old school. you can get an interface module they should have it there at futureshop now i know we have them in our bay. they run about 150 bucks and you still retain all the features of your factory deck (minus steering wheel control) but with all the greatness of an aftermarket deck.

dont think you need relocation anything for that one...not 100% sure but i think the AI part number for that wiring harness is the gwh-404...dont think thats a relocation...and you would lose the steering wheel controls if you have them, but there is a way to integrate those as well. Maybe not for an '05 but i'm sure someone will make something if its not already out there.

Thanks for all the info guys, at this point I really don’t think it needs to be relocated (or interface module).

I found this, with a module
http://www.installer-data.com/item/d...php?it=99-3303

and this http://www.installer-data.com/item/d...php?it=99-3302
without the module.

I'm no pro when it comes to this stuff and I haven’t even looked at the back of the deck yet but all the systems, driver information system, door ajar chime etc aren’t goin to the deck. The deck that comes with the base model sounds like *** and doesn’t play mp3, that’s why I wanna upgrade it. I also want an aux in cause right now I'm using one of those fm transmitters to get tunes outa my PSP and that doesn’t sound too good either...lol.

Thanks again for the info. I'm gonna put it off for a while cause I don’t have the time to go ahead with it right now but I'll fill you in on how this story ends.

Thanks,
Apolo.

thats not the module i was talking about. if you put your keys in the ignition and open the door, listen to the chime, if its coming out of your door then you NEED to by a chime module for the car. its a forsure that any new gm vehicle needs it, its not an argueable fact. and if i'm wrong i'll by the accuser a coffee.

Many new Gm vehicles have also routed not only the door chime through the headunit but also the seatbelt and headlight reminder circuits as well. Since the seatbelt reminder constitutes a safety device, it is therfor illegal in BC (probably Canada for that matter) to remove a safety device from a vehicle. Thus you are left with the cheaper relocation kit that keeps the circuit intact or the new radio delete kit that adds the chime back into the system and keeps the circuit intact.

Should have bought the LS with upgraded 7 speaker pioneer system like myself. Sounds sweet.
