1. My car has a power antenna. Should I slit the power antenna turn on with the amp turn ons.

2. My Cd deck has sub outputs. Should I run seperater RCA cable from there or one from my 4 channel amp output to the mono block.

3. Do the quality of RCA cables make a major sound difference, what should I look for in the cables.

4. Wheres a good place to find 0/1 awg power cable that will ship to canada and isnt to overprice.


Thanks alot for the replies I really appreciate it as I am new to the car audio and trying to install an entire system at 16 years old.

The reason I have all this MTX stuff is because its the best sounding stuff at future shop where I get everything at Cost with 3 Year warranties.

4. i found a good deal at a local stereo shop in brantford. its called FM audio, look them up and ask for a price, i cant remember what it was per foot but it was better than buying it offline. smartass is selling 0 gauge wiring kits for a killer price, check under his FS section.

1) Yes you can hook the power antenna lead to the remote-on wire from the CD player

2) Run the separate cable - then you can control the level of the sub amp right from the deck

3) Sort of - cheap cheap cables are often weak. IMO you should spend at least $20-30 for each long run from the dash to the trunk. Since you shop at FS, get the blue Stinger Hyper series.

if cheap can be weak what do you look for in a good set of rca's?

Many companies are using shielded type rca's to eliminate inducted noise, and finding a "twisted pair" RCA also increases noise resistance, I suggest sticking with a brand name such as Streetwires, monstercable, etc

I throught that if you do this...it will only work when the radio is on (IE: FM/AM)

^ Some aftermarket decks have two wires, a blue that is only for the antenna and yes often puts it back down when on CD, and a blue with white stripe that is for the amplifier that is on when the deck is on.

Pioneer has only a single wire so it has to control both. Only downside is the antenna is up when on CD.

Zinger - my criteria is pretty simple: I make my own so I control the quality But for a retail piece I recommend a twisted pair from a major brand. I prefer metal ends too (Stinger Bullet comes to mind) but that's just me.

To clear up some confusions:

1. It is only decks that have a separate antenna lead that can make the antenna go up when the radio is on, so the short answer is yes.
The longer answer is that you should use a relay since you're already turning on 2 amps and now the antenna. Look up a sticky thread called turn on relay.
2. Yes, you need RCA's from your HU to your amps. If your deck has 6 rca's, use them all.
3. Yes, good RCA's make a difference. But don't get carried away with overpriced high end cables.
4. Princess auto has welding cable in 1/0 (or bigger) for a good price. It has a black neoprene jacket, doesn't look as good a braided shiney translucent blue stringer cable. But it costs a lot less and will last longer.

Now I gotta ask why your're asking all this if you work at future shop? Don't they have installers? Buy a big case of beer and get them to help you out?

youd be hard pressed to find an installer anywhere near where i work that would have the time right now, very busyZ!....but go back to the install bay and hang out with them if they dont mind...i have sales associates back in my bay all the time asking questions, same goes for any local shop obviously depending on what kinda ppl they are and if they time they are willing to spend helping those new the scene
