86 mustang with head unit

i have a 86 mustang with a alpine head unit. are the shocks on the car to rough for the radio??? is it because those sports cars bounce alot in the front and it causes my radio to skip? just now i came back i guned the car and there was a tinny crack in the street from one side to the other, and it skipped. the car barely lifted of the floor. i have no clue i think theres a ghost in my car or something ive tried everything i put another radio inside and it does the same thing... i need some real help guyz. im open for anything...

My alpine head unit has skipped 3 times in the last year. Those were really really hard bumps, like i thought it might damage a rim.
Maybe i got lucky?
My alpine changes don't skip very easy either.

I think mounting makes more of a difference than shocks.

thanx tom well i guess your familiar with how a 1986 mustang looks inside right? well i ahve the shifter and then the dash which the radio is like right infront of the shifter but not to close. like if u put ur hand on the shifter u could use it as a rest tool for ur hand to change the song. i cant put my radio in the trunk lol. how do u suggest i mount it in the place its in?

I've seen the mustang. What kind of mounting adaptor is it? If it shakes or vibrates at all, it will skip. The worst thing is if the HU is loose enough that it moves and then hits bottom. That will skip every time.
What you can do, is use the proper metra mounting kit, but since they are really flimsy, use lots of glue to hold it together and hold the radio mounting frame in place. Amazing Goop is good stuff.

the kind of cracks i hit are the joints on the overpasses or like a half inch crack in the floor and my radio would skip maybe not all the time but most of the bumps it hits it skips. some bumps that are continuous it wont skip but others it will.

the problem with the skipping is bcaues you have not BACK STRAPED the hu in! if you support the back of the radio and make shure it doesnt move at all youll do fine !

how tight is the radio in the car ?
we have installed hu in heavy haulers that have way more vibration, also off road trucks that get the crap beaten out of them.
The only other thing i can really think of is if your alternator isnt puting out a proper voltage. like 12 or lower at idle. check that you might have to repalace the reulator
