A question for the install experts...

A friend of mine wants to replace the factory 3-ways in his 91 celica and to my knowledge they have a factory 8" woofer in there. I haven't had the time to actually take the door panel off so I'm not too sure how much space he has in there. Can he fit an 8" sub? Say... a Rockford P1 as an example? If so, could it be possible to put in a 5.25" component in the other factory spaces?

Thanks in advance!

Does it have the factory Fujitsu 10 system? If memory serves, the door actually has a 10 in it. If so, or even an 8, that's great and opens up the possibilities considerably for having killer bass up front. But, there still could be a depth issue since most stock woofers aren't that deep or beefy.

So I guess the best bet would be to actually open it up, eh? As for the factory Fujitsu 10 system, I'm not sure since he already had an aftermarket when he bought the car.

Does anyone have any experience with putting an 8" or 10" in the door of this car?

I did an install on a 1991 era Celica Convertible, I am pretty sure that it had an 8" in the door. As far as depth is concerned, I cannot remember how much is available.

it's an 8 in the door and i just recently put P1 8's in my doors. Depth wise there ok i ended up building them out a bit by making mdf rings. I'll try post some pics. Also you'll find you will have to cut the mount to allow for a deeper sub/speaker and possibly even some metal off the door where the 8 sits. Hope this helps

I havena't had any subs in the door, but I did have and 8" in the side panels in the rear seat, pretty much the same difference i guess. but instead of running them like subs, since they were really soft, I had them running as if they were speakers. One thing though, I had a set of 200 watts tweets hooked up along side them....made for some really nice mid bass, and extra sound.

i have a 90 celica with the "system 10"(10 speakers total) speaker system:
4" 2 way component set in the front
8" subs in the doors
6.5" component set in the rear
220w 6 channel amp under the seat

i replaced the 8" subs with 6.5" alpine type r components on 2 channels of my mrv-f540 and it sounds great but i would suggest something beefier. note that with the mounting depth of the type r's i had to modify the door panel slightly to make them fit, even with 1/4" of mdf as a spacer in there.
Also, since i wont be installing 4" speakers in the dash, the space is convenient for installing crossovers.

Gotta give credit to bigbubba for this, he helped alot. I can post pics in the next couple days if ya like.
