Alpine 9887/ 4 Channel amp connection prob
Alpine 9887/ 4 Channel amp connection prob
I recently decided to improve the connection between amp and deck by adding another pr of RCAs dedicated to the sub(channel 3,4 on amp). This was to take advantage of sub controls on this deck. Previously, the single pr of RCAs would connect to the front RCAs on the amp, a PPI DCX 600.4, and the amp would sent low pass to the rear channels by a push button switch option (in for internal xover, out for external RCAs)
I ran the RCAs, then tested(from sub out on deck to rear channels on amp). Big problem. When I set the above mentioned switch to external signal, the sub barely rumbles. When I set said switch to internal xover, I get full signal to the sub again. It has nothing to do with gain or crossovers, and the deck sub section is turned on.
Any suggestions?
PS I also wanted to do this in preparation for having this deck Imprinted by the dealer. I assume that by separating the highs/low frequencies, it would improve the final product sound.

Have you got youre sub volume set to +15? i'm assuming its the same as my 9815 and it needs to be full to put out some decent voltage.
And fyi highs and lows were seperated before you added the rcas only it was done by the amp, the only gain you will find by what you are doing is having control up front rather than having to open youre trunk.
I would think the amp would also have a switch when usings 2 ch input or 4?

I think you're right about setting the Alpine at +15. After trying that plus upping the gain on rear channels, I I'm about where I was before. Until that, I was under the belief the sub was getting almost no signal. In frustration, I finally yanked the rear channel RCAs while it was running, and it confirmed it was at least getting something from the Alpine.
I'm surprised Alpine would have you crank the sub output like that, does anyone know if other brands are like that?
