Amp/Sub Problem
Hey everyone,
Just a problem, everything seems to be hooked up correctly, as my 1200 watt ultimate amp is getting power from the HU. The problem is the subs are silent. There are 2 ultra linear 10 inch subs in that back, and nothing is coming out of them. I went out and purchased better speaker wire, and that didnt seem to help, so I have no idea what to do next. The subs work when I bring them in the house and connect them to my home audio system, but when hooked up in the car...nothing!! so i have no idea what to do, everything seems to be hooked up right, and there is no problem with the speaker wire being hooked up. help?!?!?
thanks sooo much

did you try turning up the gains at all they may be turned to the lowest positon .....i'm jsut taking shots in the dark here i have alomst run out of ideas....you hsoudl deffinatly take it to a audio shop...it shouldn't cost to much if you are just getting a guy to check the install....
I think if i was u, i would take a spare speaker or one out of the house that is 4 ohm and hook it up to the amp and have the gains turnd all the way down. Then slowly turn the gain up and see if u get anything. If nothing happens i would say that there is somthing wrong with the amp. You could also take one of the subs out and make sure all the wires are connected inside the box.
Hope that helps as its the only thing i can think of.

Does the amp have a on led or a protect led? Are you sure the amp is on? Disconnect the speaker leads from the amp next and then touch the bare ends to a small AA battery, if the speaker "pops" then the speaker is doing it's job. Next thing to consider then is the rca input, if it is good and the speakers are good then you either have a amp that has had it's magic smoke released or the head unit has no output on the rca lines. This can be checked by simply taking a discman and plugging it into the input of the amp.
yeah it does, when the car is started, the protect button appears for a few seconds, then it switches to the green power led light. so i dont think thats a problem. either the amp could be fried i guess, or the rca's are a problem. is there anyway to check and see if the amp is fried? the head unit has 2 output ports, a red and white colored one.
im not sure what it could be...when everything is hooked up and the music is playing...a quite "Rasping" kind of sound is coming from the sub, so there must be a tiny bit of power getting to it. dont know though, any feedback is much appreaciated
