Amplifying my 6x9's?
Amplifying my 6x9's?
Right now I have my four speakers running off my HU (pioneer DH6000). I have a 2-channel 125W Clarion Amp. I was wondering if it is worth spending the extra money to install this amp to run my rear 6x9's? And if so, how do I do this when I'm already running my subs amp with 4ga wire and this amp only requires 8ga wire?
distribution block...4awg to distro input, 8awg to clarion, 4awg out to sub amp. Just make sure you get a distro block with 4awg in and out for daisy chaining...pretty common. Don't forget to fuse the 8awg wire as close to the block as possible with the right amp fuse.
I agree with Citrate. Amplify your front speakers.
And Veeman has explained how you'd get power to both amps.
Depends what you're using for front and rear speakers. Have those been upgraded already? What are you using?

well you could just amplify all of them with the 2 channel. I'll assume your speakers are all 4ohm, and that clarion (and just about every other amp these days) is stable to 2ohms in stereo operation. Just parallel those fronts and rears and you'll be jammin'!! You won't be able to fade front to rear though...at least not with your head unit's fader. you could install an L-pad for the rears to control their volume relative to the fronts since both sets (front and rear) will be getting the same number of watts.
thanks for everyones input. So basically what I have goin is four 3-way speakers. Front 6.5" are rated at 40RMS(240max) and the 6x9's are 60RMS(300max). The amp I'm running is the Clarion APX2120 (rated at 2x60W@4ohms).. i believe. Just wondering if it would even be worth running all four speakers from this? and what kind of difference is it gonna make from just runnin them from my HU?
Even if you only amplifier the front speakers you're going to notice a big difference in the quality of sound they produce. Go into any audio shop and listen to similar speakers with a similar head-unit, with and without a similar amplifier. Their sound boards should already be setup for this.
As soon as you hit the button to turn the amp on, if you're convinced that amplification isn't only about being loud, then I don't know what else to say.
If you already have the amp, you might as well have it installed. My only concern is that your 3-way speakers may not be that efficient was it comes to producing mid-bass. Watch the cross-overs...

that amp delivers 90x2 @ 2ohms rms...therefore if all your speakers are powered by it, they will get 45 watts rms each...that's very reasonable power to get good sound. It will definitely sound much better, louder, and cleaner than with just the head unit amp. Think of it this way, with the head unit you'll get about 4x15 watts rms as compared to 4 x45 watts rms from a dedicated amplifier...you just went from a 60 watt stereo to a 180 watt sound system!
very easy...all right side + wires to right side + on the amp, all right side - wires to the right side - on the amp, and the same for the left speakers...parallel wiring gives the amp the 2ohm load. By the way that amp is actually CEA rated at 100x2 @ 2ohms. Those speakers will sing with the extra power!
