bad to run signal wire with power wire?
Before I do an install I need to find this out. When I had an install at FS once the guy ran the power wire along with the RCA cables and I was getting engine noise...
At a certain RPM I could hear a loud whine noise. Is this because he should of routed the RCA's on the other side of the car?

yes, thats most certainly from the alternator. It is common practice to run the rcas on the other side of the vehicle from the power wires. I also use a noise reducer which stops alternator whine. You can probably find it at walmart or any audio shop.

In 20 years I have NEVER seen RCA placement cause engine whine nor have I seen relocating RCAs correct it.
It is a myth.
And any installer goes as fast as they can. A good one goes only as fast as the job can tolerate though. Keep hatin on FS though..

Dukk, it depends on the quality of RCA's.... Properly shielded (or even just twisted pair) RCA's won't make noise, but (especially when you consider the customer base in FS and BB stores) there are people out there that opt for wiring not made for car audio simply for cost reasons... Especially the really chinsey stuff that uses tinfoil for the negative conductor! Now that's But 90% of the time, it's not RCA's. Bad grounds are typically suspect

I will repeat: In 20 years I have NEVER seen RCA placement cause engine whine nor have I seen relocating RCAs correct it.
And I have seen, installed, and used the entire spectrum of cables from freebie VCR patch cables on up.

Further to that - from what I see, for a good 90% of the amp installs at FS the customer buys an amp wiring kit that contains an adequate "car audio grade" cable.
