Question Basic Audio questions.

Amp:
Clarion APX1301
Clarion Canada | APX1301

Sub:
compVR 10 inch.
Kicker.com

So I'm not looking for a huge booming base system. I listen to thrash and other types of metal, so tighter base is more of a concern VS 'boomness'. I believe the 10in should be great for this. I'm really looking for something to remove the bass off my current system so I can turn it up some more with out distortion.(other speakers are on an amp already)

From what I know, these should play nice.
The sub being 2 ohm with 400W RMS output matching the amp's 320RMS rating. The frequencies should be fine too. SUB: 25-500hz AMP: 30-300hz

What I would like to know is; Has every thing I've said true? Should this work and give me what I'm looking for?
Does dual voice coil always mean 2x 2ohm/4ohm? (ie, 2 positive, 2 negative terminals)
Whats the general practice for mounting the sub box (with amp on it?) to a trunk with "theft proof" in mind? (I've heard appoxie, drilling the screws, Using L brackets to mount)
Any known problems with either sub or amp I should know? I googled around and couldn't really find any thing.

Thanks alot!

you should be fine with that.. screw the box down with L brackets and your fine mounting the amp to the box... it will be a good relief for your front speakers and will offer a decent amount of kick

I have another question.

that picture is from the manual. (READ: bottom of post)

That sub is a Dual 2ohm voice coil. So from what I understand that means that it will have 4 terminals (2 positive, 2 negative) from that picture how would I go about hooking this up to the amp?
I know that 2ohm in series = 4 ohm, and 2ohm in parallel is 1ohm.
I would hook it up in 4ohm mode but there are two sets of 4ohm terminals.

Also for 2ohm operation, would I have to connect the two terminals in the middle together?(have the speaker on the outer two)

So what should I do?

Edit:
Picture didn't work.

well since the amp will make the most power at 2ohm see if you can find a sub with dual 4ohm or dual 1 ohm coils instead, ther wise you'll be wiring for 4ohm bridged and wont get the most out of the amp.

Thanks for the reply!

I found the same sub but with Dual 4ohm voice coil.

I have a probably debatable question.
Would I notice a difference in an enclosure that was 0.8 Cubic feet VS 1.4 cubic feet? What kind of sound would I lose? The "Boomness" or tight response? or both?

The spec for the sub is 0.8 - 4.0.

The 0.8 cubic feet one wont take up half my trunk

Thanks Again!

well the bigger ones will be ported. so you have to decided you want ported or sealed, i listen to alot of metal and i run ported as long as it is built right it wont be that boomy and youll get alot more output.
