correction. it changed but it didnt get louder or harder. sorry
That didnt make sense, if you 'messed with the gain' how did the sound change if it didnt get louder or quieter... could you have been adjusting a xover?

When i go into the "Subwoofer" setting on the deck and turn it up, nothing happens. But when i turn up the "Bass" setting it hits harder. Did i hook something up wrong?

Sounds like you hooked up the rcas going to your subs on the rear output rather than the subwoofer output on the deck, which would make a HUGE difference. Pull out the deck and read your owners manual to hook it up properly

So this post proves the amp and HU combination can put out more SPL... I think the previous post from jerdavy might be on to something, you are probably sending a full range output to your sub rather than using the HU's internal crossover for sub frequencies... remember once you get the right RCA combo to turn down the amp gain and turn down the bass EQ... THEN set the gain of the amp (slightly higher than it was for the previous HU) to balance the subs to the full range speakers

I fooled around with the settings and set it to "Subwoofer 2" instead of 1. This made a big difference and now im getting good bass out of it again. I double checked the cables sending the signal to my amp and there plugged in correctly on my deck and amp. All the amp settings are fine but this "sub 1-14" level settings still dont do anything. To change the subs hitting level I just go to the "bass" setting. I wonder what the point of the sub 1-14 is..

Pull the deck out and make sure your RCA's are connected to the sub out connections. The sub 1-14 level adjustments should work - my guess is that it's connected to the front or rear output or you have the deck set up incorrectly.

You deck has 3 pre-outs FRONT/REAR/SUBcheck you crossover settings too.

Read your manual or take it to a pro

good luck!

check the crossover (xover) set it to 80hz. Setup must be incorrect, also again read the manual.

The pre-out is 2volt on that Alpine deck. Your old deh-p80mp was 6volt Max.

That is significant drop in voltage return the deck and get the 4volt CDA-9885

buddy of mine had same kind of problems on Alpine decks (yeah 2 of them)... resetting the deck helped him.
dont remember exactly but it was some combination or particular setting glitching - that would do it

the symptoms were similar to yours - to describe it better - the bass didn't get louder after vol 25 or so.
im sure it's the same thing. can ask him what exactly did that
