I prefer solder with heat shrink but if you use butt connectors and crimp them well and then wrap them in tape you should be fine.

Definitely use solder with heatshrink tubing. You will have a more professional look and it will last much longer.

If you know how to solder (and do it right) then soldering is best.

If you don't know how to solder, then do butt connectors - it is better to use a simple butt connection than make a mistake and have a cold solder which will eventually let go.

But, if you know how to solder properly, that is the strongest route to take.

I dunno about being ghetto. For something that isn't going to have any pressure on it it's fine with tape. However, as stated numerous times, solder is better.

solder will last 50 years.

a good crimp will corrode in about 10 years depending on the weather.

the twist and tape will last 3-5 years. Shop want you to keep coming back.

Also, since you are wiring 2 harnesses together, you don't have to make the connections in the car. You can make all of the connections on your work bench - its the perfect soldering environment - no crazy angles or dark dashboard cavities to burn your fingers in.
