can you attach car audio to a regular home stereo?
hey guys, just wondering if you can connect car audio (i only have a couple tweeters, a couple of woofers and 2 crossovers for now) to a regular stereo. Also, if i decided to put these into my car (2002 olds alero) what do i need to connect it to the stock radio?
18-12 guage wire. any between that range are able to handle the massive 30-50W's your stock deck is putting out.
and yes this can go to a home setup.

30 - 50 watts eh? thats a stock stereo i would like to have, on a good day most stock decks are gona give you 5-8 watts rms. i personaly wouldnt waste your time puting that stuff in your car, start off with a good deck and you will be amazed how much better your stock speakers will sound.

just pop them into a speaker box.
one thing though, most home audio opperates at 8 ohm, while most car sudio speakers (barring subs) opperate at 4 ohm... so you would essentially need double the power in the home setup to achive the same output, as in the car.

well, the speakers determing the load the amp is seeing. Your car speakers are probably 4 ohm, but most home stereos can only handle a minimum of 8 ohm speakers. Check the specs of the home receiver you are using to see what the minimum restance is that it can handle. If it's a minimum of 8 ohm (which most are) then DON'T connect those speakers. It may work for a while, but could fry your receiver.
