cant get my 4 channel tc4004 mtx amp to work properly

hey

this problem seems to be driving me nuts. i have a mtx 4004 4 channel amp and im trying to power 2 6x9 3 way pioneer speakers. Problem that im having is that wen connected, the bass portion of the speakers only play and i get no mids or highs. I tried the highpass filter, then nothing played. I tried full range, and the bass played. I tried low pass, and the bass kept playing...

From the source unit... i have a pioneer deh-p6800mp. There is two options to set the outputs.. that is subwoofer.. or full range. It is set to the latter... when i have my monoblock and my subwoofesr running everything seems perfect.. i just cant get the 4 channel to play at full range. i dont kno what im doing wrong.. i bridged the four channel to produce 150 watts per channel.. ive tried it as 2 channel as well. I just dont kno whats going on.. i even turned the gain and bass boost all the way down. Im starting to believe its a sourcing problem.. like the deck is not putting out the full range.

That being said.. i took the hpf off.. turned loudness off.. everything that i could think of. Is there sumthing wrong with the amp?

is there sumthing im missing or doing wrong? ive tried multiple speakers and tweeters as well just to make sure. Any help is appreciated!

-Danny

Have you tried switching the RCA's? maybe you have the front RCA going to sub amp and rear / sub output going to the speaker amp? Not likely but worth an ask.

^^That would be my guess. Any other filtering or processing between deck and amp?

hmmm. no i dont think so. the deck has 3 preamp outputs.

It looks like

Im assuming the long rca out is intended for the subwoofer?. but what i did previously was just use one of the other channels (the front or rear i assume) to source my monoblock and subs.. and when i was testing the 4 channel i just pulled the RCA cable out of that monoblock and switched it in. Keeping in mind, i did do all the stuff in my first post.

I dunno why it wont work!!!

No i dont have any external equalizers or crossovers... its just a straight RCA fromt he deck to the amp. im gonna try n switch the RCA cables.. or use a different channel later. i Dunno if itll help or not... i mean right now its connected to the front or rear rca outs.. so i dunno

So you are using the 4ch double bridged to the 6x9s only, correct?

This..
I tried the highpass filter, then nothing played. I tried full range, and the bass played. I tried low pass, and the bass kept playing...
leads me to believe that the amp is getting sub frequencies only so I suspect that either the RCAs are in the wrong output on the deck or for some reason the deck is stuck on low pass.

Temporarily dropping in a different full range amp would confirm.

Hmm when i get home im gonna try n use a different RCA output and see what happens. I dont really think the amps at fault though but maybe thats stuck on lowpass itself.. because i recently bought it used so who knos. neways im gonna run two sets of RCAs for the rear input to the amp as well n see if that side works in 4 channel mode.

Another question i have is.. since i got a mono block mtx tc6001 and mtx tc4004... i see in the manual that i can jump an rca from the 4 channel to the monoblock and itll be used as a regular input... as in a daisy chain setup. is this advisable? considering i even get the damn 4 channel amp to work...

thanks for the help so far guys!

Having the sub RCAs run right to the monoblock will give u a sub level control from your radio as well as keeping the fader from the deck working properly. It really sounds like your RCAs for your speaker amp are run off your sub output. Easy way to check would be turning the sub level up and down from the deck and seeing what it affects.
