when a speaker operates it sends an equal amount of energy in front of and behind the cone. Also some of the energy shakes the speakers frame and as the speaker is rigidly bolted to the metal of the car, the cars metal now vibrates with the music (bad juju (technical speak for sounds like ***)). By building with dissimilar materials you hope to build a structure with as little resonance as possible to house the speaker. Mass loading (weights) make sense since more weight would make anything harder to move! clay and dynamat have viscoelastic properties that turn vibrational energy to heat energy. See this stuff is easy

Also in the method that you fasten the speaker to the cabinet.............tricks there too to make things better. As the cone moves, there's the transfer of energy into the speaker basket and then into the cabinet ..........if.............. the basket is rigidly fastened to the cabinet.

Hmm things to think about. I'm not competing so anything I do is simply for my own entertainment and enjoyment. And I'll be doing full discosure on what I do so either people laugh or point out ways to improve. I like both responses.

I think I have too much of a thing for EL Wire to enter a competition and be accepted.

I've used lamp cord in the past. There are no rules that say you have to use a certin type of wire, you just need to make sure the wire is large enough.

^^^ Ditto!
The only benefit of fancy speaker wires is that they have been specially treated for higher moisture levels of a car so they won't rust or corrode as quickly as basic lamp cord wire - but for conductivity, there is no difference.
My car is not too damp, and I used a lamp cord for 3 years on my speakers. When I uninstalled it, the wire was still as good as my initial installation.

Is lamp cord cheaper to buy in bulk? I've been worried about spending another $60 on speaker wire when I re-run them in my car.

................there's a lot of *car audio* crap that's totally unnecessary and are just revenue generators for someone when a lot less or something completely different would suffice.

Capacitors.......... ?!?!?!?
