cdn.tire sound deadening ?
#1
hi guys. i read this post on another board about material he used for sound deadening. now i got some edead v1SE, but i was wondering if i should apply this stuff first THEN the mat over top ???
"Rubberized rocker gaurd was a product I used in one of my vehicles, it has the same dampening properties as Edead but costs alot less. To apply, I took all the carpeting out of my trunk and sprayed a generous coating on all the metal surfaces, then I gave it 24 hours to harden then, I reinstalled all the carpeting.
The result was a reduction in resonance noise in the trunk giving the subs a slight boost in sound quality and a huge increase in rust resistance for the car.
The difference was small but with the amount of money it cost (under 20 bucks) I would do it again.
"I used the Canadian tire stuff, use the paintable stuff, its pricyer but higher quality, be forwarned that your cars gonna stink like tar for a week after applying it, but the smell will go away."

You might want to use the spray-type deadeners (or substitutes) only for the hard(er) to reach/tight areas. From my understanding and from what the common consensus seems to be, there's nothing like the 'real thing', ie., Dynamat Ex, Second skin, B Quiet Ex. I also hear that e Dead has peeling issues due to heat. But if you're sold on the idea of spraying, then mat deadening, you'll want to ensure that the surface offered by the spray will allow adhesives to take to it. Happy install.

well, i got 100 sq,ft of edead, and yes, i heard about peeling problems too! so i will put the edead mostly on the floor. i dont have a trunk, so that good, no gravity there to worry about. but its the doors i might apply that rockerguard. dunno yet. also, maybe rockerguard the floor THEN edead over top

Let me know how the eDead holds up over the summer. I'm still making my decision on what mat to use. I was going to go with the eDead, but I waited too long and now they don't cover the shipping costs...darnit (as well as the peeling issues). So I'm leaning towards B Quiet. I'm also using roofing 'ice guard' for the floors (WAY cheaper/lots more and the horizontal surfaces don't pose (as) much of a peeling possibility). Good luck with the install (and post some pics, eh?).
