changing 2007 ford fusion audiophile system
I have the audiophile system in my 07 Fusion.8 speakers with an amp in the trunk for the subwoofers.Seems to have enough power for me but the bass is flat.It sounds best with the treble full and the bass about mid point.
I am thinking of changing the hu unit to a Kenwood x492.Would this give me much improvement in having cleaner sounding bass response.Just looking for a moderate improvement in sound nothing dramatic. Also what would the power be for this stock Hu as apposed to the Kenwood?..Thanks in advance.

Had to rip the whole thing out and start from scratch with a complete system.
Good Luck!!
Upgrading the head unit alone would likely make the sound worse.
The problem with factory systems, even "audiophile" systems is that the car manufacturers do everything they can to keep the cost down. So, they get OK speakers and make them sound "better" by adjusting the output frequencies of the HU - it is much cheaper to make a headunit preprogrammed to have frequency spikes and dips than to get a true flat response speaker.
So the headunit does not give a true flat response - even with the EQ settings all at 0. There are settings which the user cannot access.
So, if you replace just the HU, you'll have a HU which does have a true flat response, and speakers that will show their true colours - all of their weakpoints will be even more pronounced now that you have removed the factory HU which was attempting to compensate for their weakness.
Unfortunately, you would have been better off getting the car with the most basic radio (or none if that is even an option). You will likely only be happy if you replace all the speakers, the Head-unit and add a small 4 or 5 channel amp.
There really is no easy way to fix your sound.

What system then for fusion?
Ok what kind of system can be recommended for a 2007 ford fusion that had the audiophile '8 speaker system with subwoofer amp installed'.Looking to keep it under $1000.00 and if possible maintain my steering columb controls intact and also has sirius radio?
Well, if you like the factory radio, you can keep the factory radio and the fun steering wheel controls. Those nasty factory frequencies can be conquered without a new head unit. Look into a JL cleansweep (you can get them online for roughly $200; more in a shop). The cleansweep undoes all of the nasty equalizing of the factory unit by running test tones through the HU (via a CD) and recalibrates the output. Its pretty cool. Check it out JL Audio: Products
Then, add an 4 channel amp and some speakers . . . Really let your ears do the picking. For your price range, infinity makes good speakers that won't break the bank. And I personally like MTX amps.
