chevy truck needs more power

hi guys

I'm new to the forum and was hoping you could help me out with some advise. I've got a regular cab chev truck that i want to add some more power too. My deck is a alpine 9813 wich is rated at 60x4 or 27x4 rms. my door speakers are fosgate 6.5 punch speakers (60-75 rms) and in the back in the corners i have fosgate 6x9's (75-100rms). i have no amp or subs whatsoever, didnt think i'd need em in such a small cab. anyhoo the problem im having is once the deck gets to 24 on the volume it starts crapping out. Now im assuming its because its only a 27x4 rms and just doesnt have the power to sound good at any higher levels? so i was thinking jeez why not add an amp, only i have no idea which would be the best configuration. amp for back speakers only and run the fronts through the deck? if i run the fronts through the deck would they now be 54x2 (wishfull thinking i bet). anyways i was hoping someone could give me some ideas. what id like is 50 watts per front speaker, and 75 watts per rear speaker. anyone have some thoughts on this.

thnx carl

Find yourself a 4 channel amplifier, 40 - 100w rms x 4 and that will bring new life to your speakers. If you are wanting more bass response, consider a shallow mount subwoofer and use the amp on the front and subwoofer. Your budget will determine the amplifier choice.

ok one more question about the crossover setting on the alpine 9813 hu. It has an option of 2-way or 3-way. all i have in my truck is two front 6.5's and two rear 6x9's, powered by a jbl gto1004 amp. No sub whatsoever. in the manual for setting the crossover switch both instances(2-way and 3-way) both give example using a sub? what do i set it at if i dont have a sub?

thnx carl

okay 2way or 3way refers to using a component set a 2way comp set has a tweeter and a mid bass and a 3ways has a tweeter, mid range, and mid sub. so unless you are using tweeters leave that setting off lol!

umm as for amps don't waste your cash on exile shyt! put it this way i got a sundown 100.4 (100rms per channel at 4ohm) for 450 bnib so don't waste your money on exile and if you have 600 to blow on an amp tlk to me i know some ppl lol.

as for subs a shallow mount sub you might wnat to look into a Stero intergitity brandnew bm 12inch it tkaes 500rms in a 0.5 ported box! and has a mounting depth of like 3inch or less! they are extremely small and are supost to be super good!

anyways any more help feel free to send me an e-mail or p/m!

Kenneth

i didnt end up buying the exile, but i did buy a jbl gto1004. Its a little overkill for my application but it was on sale so i bit haha. im not going to be running a sub in the truck, its just way overkill for my liking. Both of alpines senario's for the crossover switch (installed on the deck) include a sub. thats why i cant figure out what to set it at, i dont have a sub.

jbl gto 1004! nice amp man!! jbl makes some nice looking amps which do nice stuff! lol esspecially in trucks! lol. sure it is over kill but you know what go big or go home right (and when the price is right!)

umm do you have sub controlls? if so just turn the sub controlls on low or off then you shouldn't have to worrie about setting but on the other hand you don't have a sub so nothing is getting hurt right? other then that i don't know what to tell you man lol sorry man!

well ive gotta say after getting the new amp installed and everything dialed in that the truck is waaaay louder lol. Little louder than im used to but the clarity it just awsome. It just baffles me (not a stereo guy) how much of a difference there is in sound quality. id like to thank the guys that chimed in on my meager install and steered me in the right direction. im going to enjoy my tunes much more now .
