Colour changing LED's

Anyone know what type of LED that is used in the 'multi-colour' display in the Alpine HU's? are they controled by a chip, or could they be changed through increasing or decreasing the voltage??

thanks guys, Mark

i worked extensively with under car led kits. seeing as how it does silimar things,. id say that there is a few colored leds that change with voltage.

also i had seen a few leds that had 3 colors in them . 1 led and the three primary colors. once again there was individual control on all three colors. and voltage controlled them.

have you tried posting on an alpine site?

Cool

i know that dual color leds reverse the polarity to change from green to orange.

thanks guys, I am not looking for the red / green type, or the 3 pronged LED's, but something like what's in the alpine HU's. an LED that could change from colour to colour gradually, even 3-4 colours would be good.

but thanks anyway.

Lightbulb

I thought that those colour changing active displays were indeed active and not LED backlit - more like a colour LCD screen..

They might very well be. I have never needed to open one of the faceplates that have that feature, you might be right...

Hey

I don't know exaclty what Alpine uses but I've got a small kit on the way with a bunch of RGB LED's & controller. The control chip (from my understanding) is similar to a PWM in the power supply of an amp. It turns each Red Green or Blue LED on for a variable period of time at the same time creating the various colors. Supossed to be 4096 distinct variations in the color reproduced.
