Question

I've been doing some reading about amps and their current draw and found something that has me kinda puzzled...

Someone has written on another forum that the Memphis Mojo has a current draw of 300+++amps.Being as this RipRock is a mod'ed(so I've been told)Mojo, what kind of draw am I looking at.

I dont want to run the thing with no fusing,so the question I have is how I should go about fusing the power wire for over 300 amps.

I will be using a industrial fuse holder then was planning to very slightly modify a wafer fuse to fit.Should I look at just getting an industrial fuse to fit in there?

Just wondering if this info is right and if so what I need to look at to headoff any possible prolems...

300 Amps should be sufficient for a Mojo, unless you plan on running it 0.5ohm or below.

300 amps @ 13.8 volts @ 68% eff = 2815.2 wrms

Keep in mind 68% is pretty low for a class D amp.

The real question is will your alternator support an amp that can pull 300amps?

The issue is your stock alternator... it won't put out 300amps.

If it is for a daily driving system you won't need anywhere near a 300 amp fuse. I ran 2 mojo's at .7 ohms each daily with a 150 amp fuse and it never blew.

As for the stock alternator, don't forget that the battery can put out some good amperage too. When I was burping my Mojo's with the car off I popped the 150 amp fuse within 4 seconds so my guess would be that the curent was over 200 amps from 1 battery.

I guess it comes down to what you are doing with it.

Don't forget though, that the fuse should match your wires carrying capacity not the fusing you need. (well whichever is less)

I mean if your amps can draw 600 amps of current, and your wires can take 400, then you start drawing 500 amps of current, you won't blow your fuse or amps up, but you will probably melt your wire and start a fire.

I'm just wondering what size fuse to use for regular daily use and what to use for competition.

As far as the battery/alternator thing, chances are I will be running in a street class somewhere...So unless they change the ruling on engines running,my biggest worry will be my battery standing up and the fuse holding up...I still think there has to be a way of wedging a deep cycle under my hood...we will see...

If you think you need a 300amp fuse.. then you might as well get one...

I was unaware that amp in question could make that much power ?

use a fuse for daily, and then a piece of copper buss for competition.

The question there, that comes up, is this...if there's a problem somewhere, will 300amp fuse be too high to act as a fail safe?or should I go lower amperage for street use?

I'm new to using this amp, if I could get some advise from people that have used em for street and comp use I would really apprciate it..

if your battery dead shorts it'll hit 10,000 amps in miliseconds. 300A is find as a fail safe.
