deck install - bypass stock amp? monsoon deck upgrade

Hi guys,

So i had professionally installed subs and amp into my 2000 sunfire GT with a monsoon deck with the small stock amp.
I was told the stock amp is powering the speakers and new big amp the subs.

I just bought a new deck and tried to splice the old wires into the new harness.
problem is i cant find a wire diagram??

Also i realize now that the deck will power the speakers so i need to bypass the old stock amp.

I must be missing a step because i hooked up the wires but nothing turns on which leads me to believe that the stock amp is trying to power the speakers or i wired it wrong, because the deck wont turn on.

I realize that ill loose the chimes but dont care just want the deck to work

Anyone have any experience or a wire diagram? even advice would help! thanks!!

if this vehicle is actually a 2000, you will need a class 2 data harness for aftermarket deck installation, you cannot splice into the factory harness. Here are a few part numbers for you.
Pac Audio: C2R-GM-24
Metra: LC-GMRC-01

for your info, these are not $20 harnesses. Do some research with whomever you deal with in your area for pricing. Go to www.pac-audio.com for info regarding the harness which will give you a better understanding of what your getting yourself into.

12v constant now reads 2.5v and deck wont turn on

So i found my 3 main wires to splice - ground, 12v ignition power and 12v power.

after hooking everything up the deck wouldn't turn on, i check the volt meter again... and the 12v power is reading only 2.5 now so obviously its not enough to power deck on.

i could run both deck wires to my ignition power and it will work but i wont have a clock or presets ever...

2.5v read means i haven't blown anything? maybe a short?

advice? opinions?

Cheers

Take it to a shop or buy the parts "IT Hz" mentioned. There is a reason why it's outputing 2.5v

keep this up and your going to do damage to your bcm, what you don't seem to underdstand here is your deck communicates to the car through data, there is a reason when you put your key in the iginition your chime is heard 6 times. To put it bluntly keep going down this path with hard wiring and your going to end up replacing your car's bcm. The repair bill your going to go through once you start getting check engine lights will give you the reality check. I gave you free info utilize it.

IT Hz has pretty much hit the nail on the head here. You cannot screw around with vehicles with the Class 2 Data system that incorporates the radio in to the cars computer system.. which was introduced around '99? Give or take a year or two.

Patch your wires together the way they were and take it to a professional. Or start doing some legitimate research beyond splicing wires and hoping for the best.

All 2000 and up sunfires use this harness and yes it can be expensive to pay so much for something that seems so simple. but you definitely need to listen to all the advice here and get one of these harness' before you're paying a lot more to fix damages done to the car.
