Has anybody relocated a deck and used ribbon cable to connect to the faceplate in a different location?

Thanks.

Yes the ribbon work here to. Just be extra carful not to damage the face during soldering. I wanted to get another head unit that was damaged and remove the face plate holder thingy. then solder onto it ect. So this way you can put the face plate on the remote location or were the head unit is realy located. Catch me on msn

That's exactly what I did. I grabbed a roll of computer ribbon and mounted the face of the unit in the over head console. It was still detachable which was a bonous. And since I had the old face of the broken unit I didnt have to wreck the working unit at all. All the dash had was a small slit so the cd could fit in. That was like 10 years ago, damn I getting old!

I see people do this all the time with the 1-Din size eq's.. they will extend the faceplate and install it over top the rear view mirror..
