DLS A5 Amp Install Questions
DLS A5 High-Res Photo
Amp Manual PDF ~ Go to page 24 and have a look near the bottom for the A5. 6dB on the HPF, 12dB on the LPF, and the Subsonic filter is non-adjustable @ 25Hz/24dB, its either on or off.
Of course when we have it installed she and I will tune it together to get the best sound. I probably intentionally keep the gains down, so we're not distorting the speakers at all. But you're definitely giving us a good place to start.
I'm going to start looking for the speaker resonance numbers too, on manuals. Thanks for that.

If you keep the gains all the way down, you will get bad results. You need to set them properly. I think the amp has input sensitivity up to 7 volts. I presume your deck is 2 volts. You will be golden if you set the gains at 60-70%. You can adjust subwoofer volume with your deck's sub output feature. If thats the case what you say with slopes, then set HPF to 70-80hz, and LPF at 60-70Hz. You can play around a hair back and forth on LPF to get the best sound for you. You're making this too complicated, and it is not.
The Excelon deck is 4V preouts. The manual says to start with the level set at 7V, with the head-unit set at 75% volume, then slowly bring the gains towards .2V until we hear distortion, then turn it slightly back.
Good to know you got Excelon. ^^^ You can do it that way. 7v is when the gain is all the way down. You know what to do, and I do not think you will need to bring the gains passed 50% if the system wont be pushed as you say.

I have no idea if those are good prices or not. All these sites list their prices beside the MSRP, not sure if that number is fabricated or not.
Anything we're missing?
After shipping and exchange rate is applied, it ends up being $230. That doesn't include any other fees I'll have to pay.
Aren't there any Canadian electronics sites that we can use?
lol. Wiring and such should arrive sometime during the up-coming week. We're going to have the amp installed shortly there-after. I talked to a friend who has a pair of JL subs in a box that he hasn't used for a few years. He said we can borrow it for a while. I need to find out exactly what they are first - hopefully the box is wired for a 2 ohm load, and the subs don't have an RMS more than 250W each. At least it'll be something to get her by until we can afford her own quality subwoofer.
I still need to listen to a pair of the 6.5" Focals. Hearing good things about those as well. And for the same price (generally) as the Hertz, they're worth a listen. I'm also contemplating the MBQ Reference series, which should be a little less expensive, but I don't know who carries them locally any more.
What about Boston Acoustic? Do they have a line that is comparable to the Hertz/Focal? Or are these a 'cut above'?

Wiring ordered right from the Knukonceptz website. Sorry MR2NR. Just couldn't pass up the good price on this equipment. I have someone behind the scenes that is giving me some helpful tips and advice, and I tend to be following it.
How much for the premiums? How much more are they, than the Reference? And for the difference in price, is it really worth it?
