Ok...Now I have your attention..Good!!

Does the guage of speaker wire matter?

I've heard several different theroies on this and would like to get more input to use towards the new build.

As well...Does it need to be speaker wire?I mean why couldnt a person use just standard copper multistrand power/ground wire?

I look forward to seeing some of your thoughts...

In most applications I doubt anything bigger then 10ga will make a difference.

It'll be one of those things we can test on sat.

Yeah...its just too bad I dont have anything better than the cheapy 10's to test with....Chances are we will introduce Mr.RipRock to the Pioneer Twins and see how well they like each other...

But yeah..Would be a great thing to test out...test resistance over several types of wire, guages of wire, etc.Maybe even do some SPL testing with various guages of wire in the same setup...

Good idea Martin..

I think 15' of 12awg will handle around 20amps before Vdrop is an issue... So 5' runs are probably fine for most systems under a few kw...

I almost always use 12awg... sometimes 14...

I had to laugh at my cheap @$$ roommate cause he wired his whole system in 18awg... I'm like 'dude WTF did you waste your cash on that crap for??? hope ur happy that your system sucks now!!!'

large doses of voltage is good, higher voltage has less line loss. it's high doses of current that become an issue since current = heat

It's all good on theory, but have you personally tried the difference in wire, using equal lengths? On various speakers (ie: woofer tweet..)?
it doesn't take audiophile ears to hear the difference.
So in short, size does make a difference, but as with other issues in life, it's all on HOW you use it.

Haunz You gotta admit, this is the most opinionated industry next to cars and computers.
