Enclosure size, bigger maybe not better?

122.7 Subs, not installed yet. I have this box:http://bassworx.com/images/enclosures/gloss_GPH.gif The box is 2.8 cubic feet (1.4 per chamber), tuned for 38Hz, and I currently have the ports sealed with expanding foam insulation because of the current subs. Sealed sounded better with them, but of course, they are coming out. Infinity recommends a 1.0 cubic foot sealed box so I'm 40% over, and 2.0 cubic feet for vented, so 30% under there :) Infinity sub spec sheet:http://manuals.harman.com/INF/CAR/Bo...ers/122.7w.pdf Yes, I know...Buy or build a new box :) :) but I want to use what I have. The subs will be getting 300 or 350rms each (haven't decided yet). My thinking is to reduce the enclosure size internally closer to 1.0 and leave the ports sealed up tight. From reading here, I think a "too small" vented box is a very bad idea, both for the subs and for SQ. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks John |

They are 80% filled at the moment, but the expanding foam stuff chips out fairly easily, plus I used a plastic liner to ease removal. It seals very, very well. You can have a song wailing away and put a Bic over the port, flame doesnt even waver. Thanks John |
seal it and get .4 cuft of styrofoam blocks to put in each chamber...that will yield an internal volume of 1.0 cube per driver. You can just glue them down to the inside of the box.

I used sections of 4"x4" to fill it up. The enclosure probably weighs 250lbs by now, with the deadening, fiberfill, wood, and subs, heh heh. |

Before anyone says anything, yes, I have 2 stainless anchors lag bolted to the back of the box, connected to the frame tie down hooks with 2000lb rated straps. It could be better of course, but I'm pretty confident in that set up. John |
