engine running smoother with cap?
#1
I installed a cap a while ago, (why the heck not, it was cheap, and I just wanted the volt meter really) and right away I noticed that the engine ran smoother, could this be the cap providing an extra boost when the coil wants the power?
just curious, I've heard of a few other ppl with this effect too.

i noticed the same thing too actually. Its very wierd. Its almost like i got a permanent oil change feeling. idle revs feel smoother. I have a 2002 Toyota Celica Gt and damn it feels better with that no name cap also any idea if a yellow top battery will do any better?

Maybe the engine was (without the cap) at a point in it's engine mao that the power used by various components (alternator, steering pump, waterpump, etc) was holding it RIGHT at some random threshold (ie: between 1% and 2% load. The engine might have been constantly adjusting to accomodate.
Then, with the cap as a new constant load, the engine remains at another arbitrary point (say, 2% always) and the engine appears to run smoother because it's running in a more steady-state point.
