following sub setup - advice?
Subwoofer
Pioneer 10" Car Subwoofer (TS-W253R) - Future Shop
or
Kicker 12" Car Subwoofer (10C124) - Best Buy Canada
With a
Kenwood KAC-716 AMP - Mono Block
120W(RMS) @4 Ohm
--------
If I get the first sub with Pioneer 200W(RMS) power will it kick the same amount as the Kicker 150W?
Can I gain the Pioneer to a level I am confortable with incase I want to upgrade in the future - Amp wise ?

I just got my girlfriend a kicker CVR I used a ported box and it sounds fantastic. However, if you must go with one of those overpriced retail subs I recommend the pioneer for more value. Put it in a specd box and make sure you get the dual 4ohm sub so you can bring it down to 2 ohms and use the amp for all its worth. That is if it supports 2ohm bridged.
The cabinet design and build will be more important than the brand of subwoofer. I'd look for the right sub, depending on what type & design of cabinet the car needs. Musicality or SPL will determine 4 or 2 Ohm. As for power, you can most always increase power without fear of damage, providing the design of the cabinet(incl. placement) is right for that application.
Example, if we are talking about a cabinet in a P.Up, where the sub is firing into the rear of the seat, more power will cause a blown woofer, because the woofer's output is being blocked. no different than placing your hand on your mouth as you talk or scream.
what type of ride are we talking about?

Its a sedan protege. Just an update I bought the Pioneer and spec'ed the box according to the lower max on the manual. I tuned the box to 32.7Hz and chose and L-Port/Snail concept. I built the box out of 3/4 MDF and calculated everything practically by hand. The sub sounds amazing it hits nice @ 35Hz but also has punch @ 100-125Hz. Hopefully I adjusted the gains properly but if not I have a warrenty. I still gotta paint the box and stuff cos it looks bad with the glue everywhere and what not...
