Hey all have 2 boxes, wondering if you could tell me which one the woofers will sound better in. Im after the most bass, deepest... really, but yet most safest/easier on the sub...
have 2 12" kicker compvrs

box 1:
sealed

32.5" wide
14" tall
12" long (top)
17" long (bottom)
because it slants... /
single chamber

box 2:
ported

32" wide
15" tall
13" long (top)
18" long (bottom)
kuz of the slant /
single champer.

has 4 3" ports on top of the box, that go in 10"

Or if none of these are good, whats some specs of the best sealed box? My friend is willing to help me build one...

Thanks guys

How thick is the wood?

Volume of the sealed box is:
2.9 cubic feet(with 3/4" wood) (1.45/driver)
2.65 cubic feet (with 1" wood) (1.33/driver)

Volume of the ported (I have taken port displacement into consideration) is:
3.06 cu ft (with 3/4" wood tuned to: 45 hz) (1.5/driver)
2.8 cu ft (with 1" wood tuned to: 47 hz)(1.4/driver)

If you want more specific help as to how it will sound, post the theile small parameters

If he wants them to go the deepest the sealed box would probably be the way to go, 45/47 tuning it a little high to get very low regardless of box size.

If those two boxes are your only option I would definitely take the sealed over the ported. The ported may be louder, but it wont get anywhere near as low as the sealed box would.

Theile small parameteres is another term for the specs of the sub. When you get your sub there is usually a sheet (or its on the box) of things like power handling, BL, Xmas, Xmag, Xsus, Qms, etc. They all pertain to different aspects of the speaker.

If you do one of the ports it will automatically drop the tuning frequency.

Sealing 1 port:
New volume: 3.1 cubic ft. New Tuning freq: 38.5 hz

Sealing 2 ports:
New Volume: 3.13 cubic ft. New tuning freq. 31.25 hz

Sealing 3 ports:
Don't do it, it will sound crappy - One 3" port is too small to handle that kind of air-flow

Those wouldnt be bad at all. Depends on whether you want to just get loud (probably still sound half descent) or get almost as loud and sound better. If going ported, I would seal two of them. But opinions will vary. Try sealing one, if you like it then keep it. If you want it to get lower easier seal another port.

Sealing 1 port:
New volume: 3.1 cubic ft. New Tuning freq: 38.5 hz

Sealing 2 ports:
New Volume: 3.13 cubic ft. New tuning freq. 31.25 hz

On my journeys I found this too:

Rec. Sealed Box Dims: 1.00 - 4.60 cu.ft.
Rec. Ported Box Dims: 1.75 - 2.25 cu.ft.

Definitely seem to like a large box.
