Head Unit insall

Hello,

I want to install a head unit into my 05 Chevy Colorado. I have installed a few head units in previous vehicles and vehicles of friends so I got a little experience. I know I will need the dashboard install kit, antenna adapter and a wiring adapter. I went to futureshop to inquire about head units, and they have said I need some kind of kit that will cost $175 to deal with the computer in my ride. Do I really need that? this is the first time I have come across this.

Thank you

Without knowing your vehicle at all I suspect the equioment they;re suggesting is an interface for Bluetooth or On Star? If you go through Crutchfield (highly reccomended, at least to see what else is out there and what fits your ride as well as price comparison) they provide:
Free Custom MasterSheet™ instructions
Free In-dash Receiver Kit
Free Antenna Adapter
Free Speaker Brackets

Food for thought. When I was shopping for my Alpine HU, Visions was adament that I needed an extra $400 in interface gear which I learned I didn't by using the tools at Crutchfield who incidentally beat all local prices and I ended up ordering from, and having a GREAT C/S experience.

my silverado is the same.... i didnt buy the adapter though, i loose my seatbelt alrm chime, and door open chime, thats about it. as far as i can tell. I bought a ATM fuse "Tap" that allows me to to tap into a 12v switched fuse in the fusebox under the hood, and ran a wire through the firewall to my headunit, and made pins to hook up the illumination wire, and 12v constant (for memory) to the factory harness plug. these are the only three wires i needed to run to power on my headunit, as im using amps to power all my speakers/sub.....

in a way, all in all att he end, im thinking i should have just got the adapter harness, but i didnt want to wait to get one, as there isnt one avail to me locally, and im in the sticks...

ok great... i have checked out crutchfield, i will order the installation parts i need including the adapter. thank you guys for all the advice and i will be installing my hu whenever i decide which one i want. I was going to get a screen hu for gps so my dash can stay clean, but I've discovered my cell phone is an actual gps with an app. Now I have to decide which brand I want. I'm a big alpine fan, but I am currently looking at a kenwood.

thank you guys for the help, it is greatly appreciated.
