I just installed 2 amps in my car.

Got a weird buzzing noise coming out of the speakers. The noise intensifies when i accelerate. Amps turn on fine tho.

I'm running 4 gauge power wires from battery to the distribution block. then two 8 guage wires, one going into amp 1( sony explode 500w max for 4 speakers), and the other going into amp2 (mtx blue thunder 280 max for sub). Then i ground the two amps separetly with 8 guage wires. If these info helps.

Okay, looks like buzzing comes from the sony. When i take the sony offline , the sub works fine.

So does anyone know how to get rid of the buzzing??? someone suggested that it was the power wire being too close to the RCAs, but i did run RCAs on one side of the car and Power wires on the other. Thanx for any help!!!

run the right size (errrrrrr EDIT) wire to ground..... why would you run smaller??? Go 4ga... and make sure the ground is not to a seatbelt bolt or that it's RIGHT to paint....

BigBubba 09-17-2005 07:52 PM

ok bad idea..... ummm I'd suggest to move that to a better ground and scrape the paint around it to get a soild ground..... also upgrade the grounds.... 4ga.... Hello?!?

tihuana82 09-17-2005 08:04 PM

please give an example of a better ground....it's hard to find a bolt in the trunk.

And run both amps with 4 gauge ground?? i dun have a ground distribution block

no you have to make your own... yeah don't distro the grounds make seperate ones for each.... do a search.... it will help you lots...

tihuana82 09-17-2005 08:57 PM

Okay, thanx a lot....but what u think of the buzzing noise, where does it come from??

BigBubba 09-17-2005 08:59 PM

the grounds... fix those then try your RCA's

tihuana82 09-17-2005 09:25 PM

Thanx for the help, will definetely fix the grounds....maybe even necessary to drill a hole in the body?? where's good spot to drill a hole??

Kinslayr 09-18-2005 03:11 AM

It depends what vehicle. What you are getting is called alternator whine. Always check what is under the part of the body you are drilling into. You do not want to dril into your gas tank.

BigBubba 09-18-2005 08:24 AM

yeah make sure your well aware of what's around the hole above and beneth.... what kinda car is it???

what is the length of wire from the distro's to the amps???

Garvok 09-18-2005 09:20 AM

I usually go through the wheel well...sometimes you can even tie into the frame which is good but not necessary....make sure no paint or rust on surface......and maybe check to see if the RCA's are run on the opposite side of the car from the power wire

It's a chevy cavalier....
I wanna make sure it'll work b4 i drill the hole.

Garvok 09-18-2005 01:26 PM

Find a spot above a frame rail... drill a hole...pop a bolt in and maybe some locktite and your laughin,....if its a unibody guess its hopeless, not too sure what type frame the cavelier have though

Garvok 09-18-2005 01:28 PM

Better yet I got a better idea just run a second run straight to the battery and ground directly best all around way to go!!!

Attachment 26354
How's this spot to drill a hole??

Attachment 26355
It ends up here on the other side

Please if someone will tell me if this will work

JRSTAR 09-18-2005 04:12 PM

if you have a multimeter check for resistence at the ground, try grounding both amps to the same spot. good luck

Garvok 09-18-2005 05:35 PM

Are you serious???
I meant the spare tire well....maybe I should of specified......but yea the spare tire well will probably even have a bolt hole or 2 you can tie into already have a look

tihuana82 09-18-2005 06:02 PM

Oh okay, please be specific....lol...i'm a newb like u can tell.....Thanx...
