I am trying to install a JVC CD Receiver (Model KD-G420) in my 2001 Alero. I purchased the GM Warning Chime and Radio interface from Best Buy. I connect all the wires per the instructions, the unit will power on but I get no sound. I wired separate speakers to the unit to test (they worked) and checked for voltage through the harness. There is voltage for the speakers past the harness, but for some reason it does not get to the speaker itself. My the speakers do work with my factory unit, so I know they are good. The speakers have 4 wires running to them.

Is there an adapter or an interface of some sort I need to make this work with the existing wiring and speakers?

odds are youve got an amplified system and they sold you the wrong harness, problem is the harness youve got does not power up the factory amp. you need something like the NC-GM39B from American International

I was just going to say it does sound like your Alero has a factory amp, as everything works but the speakers.But does this JVC have the option to turn of the internal amp???

you could do what he said and see if there’s another harness or just bypass the factory amp. But you have some options here

1,Bypass the factory amp

2,Install a 2/4 channel after-market amp(to really get those after-market speakers to sound like they should)if you have some you want to install first

Bypassing the amp

you would have to find the amp, can’t think where it is in the Aleros of the top of my head.

After you find it, just tap into the right speaker wires coming from the amp and your pretty much done

Try connecting the remote turn on (blue and white wire) from the deck to the remote wire in the harness of the GMRC-01. That may turn on the factory amp. Unfortunately that doesnt leave many options for additional amps unless you wire up a relay to the remote turn on.

Thanks for the help everyone. I thought I had connected all the wires correctly, but I missed the blue / white wire to turn on the amp.

Just need to get some new speakers as the factory ones are blown (rear 6X9). The audio department at Best Buy tells me that I need to bypass the factory speaker wires to install a new set (the factory speakers have 4 wires to 4 connections), or is there a connector that I can use to install the after-market speakers with the existing wiring?

Sometimes, with a factory set of seperate components, like woofer and tweeter, the wire comes into the woofer, making up 2 of the wires. The other 2 wires are also connected to the woofer connections and they continue up to the tweeter, which usually has a capacitor to filter out the low notes. Just find the tweeter, take note of the wiring colours, and look at the posts on the woofer. I would bet that the same colour of wires are there. In that case, you can just take out that wire running up to the tweeter if you arent using it.

i got a question, i just bought a 2001 alero, and i have noticed that when i have the radio on while im driving, the volume will go down as i push the breaks, and when i push the gas it slowly starts to raise the volume back up, any idea what might make this happen?, or is it the way it should work? thanks !!

Thats the way it sould work......read the owners manual to shut it off.
