Help identify this small box

I am getting ready to buy some new speakers for the kick panels in my car. The previous owner had the front speakers hooked up to an amp. He took the speakers but the wiring remains.

Here is my question.

(Im going to talk about the left side of the car.. since the right is the same setup and to avoid confusion).

Here we go. Speaker wire running from the output of the amp goes into a small black box that says "studio" on it in neon blue writing from the black box 2 wires with positive and negative on each come out and run to the same speaker position.

So there are 4 connections at the end which are in one spot.

The same is for the right side.

What is the little black box and what does it do?

Sounds like a passive crossover. The speaker that used to be there must have had separate wiring for the midrange and for the tweeter.

yes, remove it. If your new speakers need a crossover, they will come with it.
