hay guys, I'm looking for high build primer for a fiberglass job I'm doing. normally
I buy it from my local body shop. but I'm sure I'm being charged a premium. It normally just comes in a non labled metal can, so I don't even know what the brand name is. What are you guys using, where are you getting it, and what kind of prices are you paying.

Duratec and Sikens are two that I use, I also either brush it or roll it on.

 

I have a full spray booth so it would be silly for me to brush it on. Though I can see why some use that technique. I actully found a dealer in my local area that sells the primer that I need. Not too pricey at all. But I will have to use the sample I got before i pass any real judgement.

 

If you are in the GTA go to Canada composites and get the Duratec, you will pay a little more for it but it will cut down on alot of finishing work. If you need the address or anything just PM me and I will grab it for you. We get everything for glassing from there because it is really reasonably priced. If I remember correctly last time I was there I got a 20 litre pail of unwaxed resin and 500ml of hardener for like $120 or so.... They have everything you would ever need for glass work.

 

are you using a air pick-up or a gravity fed gun??? With gravity fed clean up is just putting reducer in the cannister, shake it up a bit and spray it out. I used to use an air pick up and my buddy who is a body man let me use his gravity fed and told me to clean it like that. He has used the same primer gun for 3 years and never had it glog up yet. Maybe just lucky, but who knows.

 

Cleaning one of my spray guns takes about 60 seconds. I have gravity and succion guns. But the clean up is the same for both. Once in a while I do take the guns appart and really go to town cleaning them though. As far as wasted material, it isn't much of an issue for me. There isn't much over spray and almost none left in the gun when I'm finished.

 

I brush and roll it on because since I started doing that I don't waste as much, the overspray and airborn waste is huge....................I would give it a shot

When I did the Escape I used about a gallon of primer and I sprayed it on.

When I did the Lincoln I brushed and rolled it on THICK and I used less then 1/4 gallon.
