How to install 3-way speakers?
I have this question that is really troubling me, since I think its a stupid question because no matter how much I search, I can't find an answer to it. This must be because no one has asked it before because it DOESN'T need to be asked.
But here it goes any ways.
I am thinking about adding a pair of 3-way speakers to my current sound system. So I was just wondering. For a 3-way speaker, do I need to buy my crossover seperately? Or is no crossover required? I know component systems come with external crossovers but with regular 3-way speakers, what is the case? Additionally what crossover would you guys recommend for a pair of 3-way speakers. And furthermore, how would it be wired, if it was connected to an amp?

most, i think... most co-axil and tri-axil have a little capacitor/hpf stuck between the positive someplace for the high's. not sure if they use any coils for the lows though... and someone later will say if they have a coil/lpf for the low's.

so, i do not need external crossovers, because sucky ones are already attached to all 2-way and 3-way speakers? I know Infinity's come with external crossovers, but do ALL the other ones come with built-in ones?

Some come with external crossovers, others are built in. And then some that have built in can be modified to have external crossovers while others cannot (easily). You pretty much have to look at each speaker to see which way it is configured.

IF you have subs for the low frequencies, you should probably put a hpf on your 3 ways, so that they don't do the same low frequencies as your sub.
Sub frquency going to 3 ways will use up a lot of power you don't need to waste.
If your deck or amp doesn't have a filter, you can use in-line caps, usually sold as "speaker Savers". Made by Scosche and lots of no name brands.
