How to remove manual window cranks??
OK this is killing me, i was try'n to take off my door panel to toss some new speakers in...but for the life of me i can't figure out how to get the manual window crank off, so that i can take the door panel out.
I'm try'n to remove it from a 94 grand cherokee se, and there's no hidden screws. I tried prying the doorpanel and window crank apart to see if there was some funny lil release clip, but to no avail i ended up putting hte door panel back on.
How do you get the damn thing off?

if i'm right there is a clip behind it. get a small curved screw driver(there is actually a proper tool for this) and you have to find it behind the actual crank. it is shaped like a horseshoe. it needs to come out carefully cause it usually flies out and either hits you in the face or it goes missing. to put it back just insert it onto the crank and then insert the crank back on the shaft. until it clicks in place. If not, i'm sure that one of these fine gents(that own a cherokee here) can tell you for sure.
Yes it is a B**ch to get off, you can go to Crappy Tire to and buy the tool for 5$, tell them its for manual window cranks, took me a good 20 mins to get mine off, cuz te damn pin got stuck in one of the slits. It is indeed a little horse shoe pin. Turn your window cranks app. 10 degrees, push the panel back, take a look, see a little silver thing on the crank, just have to move that peice off and ur door handle will come off.
Now ounce you get here... Heres the tricky part, remove your door panel, there will be "pins" in the door, and the panel sitting on them. you will more then likely break all of these, try not to, but there not hard to find, either clips or pins. Also check under your door handle arm rest to make sure there no hiddin screws...
Hope this helps and good luck.

actuallly...i got the whole door panel off pretty easy....cept for breaking one lile plastic clip on a plate covering a hidden screw on the bottom of the armrest (doh) but all the important ones came out fairly well for me....mmuch easier than my last car (cept for that window crank handle)
I'll head to ukranian wheel for like a 30th time though and see if they have this tool y'all speak of.
Can any of you give me a hint as to what it looks like? Just so when they ask is this the right one i can say yeah or no?

on the topic of getting door panels off for the purpose of either installing speakers or putting in power door locks...for adding power locks to the rear hatch...is it pretty well the same as the rest of the doors?
I've never seen the inside of a manual locking door and haven't been able to get into mine...but am try'n to do all this, thats the only reason i ask...just wanna make sure it's fairly simple!
Thanks and thanks for that pic above....that looks like it should give me a pretty good idea
heh!

OMG I am the BIGGEST of BIGGEST idiots... Ok, so I needed to take off my window cranks to remove the door handles. I didnt have the tool to do it (so I thought) So I grabbed this weird looking tool off the wall (pictured above) a screw driver, plyers, scissors, crow bar, metal ruler.... All to try and get that damn pin out.. So I located it it and started to try and push the pin out... After 20 mins I got it... Well 3 days later only having 1 door panle off, I see this post, go look at that weird tool I was talkin about, and for crying out loud that was it... So I go try it 20 secs not 20 mins, off... O man was I pissed, but laughing at my stupidity... *sigh*

^ That's funny.
I've installed stereo for 15 years now and I have never owned one I exclusively use a backstrap bent into a U shape and am proud to say I have never scratched or scuffed a door.
Yeah, I'm cheap
