Hey, I'm planning on doing a small install into a '97 Toyota Camry.

Is there any precausions I have to take in regards to the Air Bag systems?

Someone told me that within 10 min of disengaging the battery, the sensors for the airbags will no longer work..

I just do not want to employ the air bags by accident, Thanks!

I've got 6 airbags in the front seat area of my BMW. I did a complete dash out install last fall with all the airbags being pulled out in the process. Here is what I can offer:

1.) Yes, disconnect the battery. (both posts if you want to be extra safe) Then wait at least 10 minutes, some manuals recomend an hour or 2.

2.) If you have to remove an airbag, be very carefull with the connectors. They are usually some sort of multi moving peice locking assembly that requires some delicacy to remove.

3.) Airbags usually have a blow-awy type cover over them. Some covers have a tab that snaps off to show that it has been opened. Be carefull that this tab isn't part of what holds the cover down. If it is, it must be replaced.

4.) Airbag warning lights after you finish your install sometimes don't mean anything other than the connection with the controlling computer has been broken. Take the vehicle to a dealership to have the codes read, usually it's just a simple code reset to get the light to turn off.

5.) Be carefull!

I only have two front air bags... Do you think it is necessary to remove the modules?
