what are your opinions on mounted subs inverted style. i want to do this to my truck, and have the back of the sub stick out between the seats. i know i have to switch the polarity and what not, but i was wondering about spl and sq, if there are pros and cons compared to standard mounting. p.s in the pics the bucket seats arent in yet,,,not till i decide what to do with sub. i might also be selling my 2 PG XS 10" subs, if i decide to put the 12" X-max between the seats.

Invert the sub.
No (confirmed) change in SPL
No (confirmed) change in SQ
Easier to calculate box volume (no need to subtract speaker displacement)
Shows off the "bling bling" of your sub's motor structure.
And, after looking at your set-up on SD, I think the inverted sub would compliment the rest of your install.

thanks for the info, and thanks for checking out my ride. i think it would look cool between the seats as well. i plan on mounting my amp along the floor between the seats as well, i did some quick measuring and i hope it won't touch under the dash.

if you take a woofer then invert it.you will probably not hear a difference sonically. but if you rta the woofer(spl) and invert them, you will notice a diffence. usually it will change the box size and make different spl . but more likely there is different cone area and and of course obstructions in front of the come when you invert it. but most of the time you'll invert the subs to accomodate looks and not function.

hey shadow, i like the setup in your car, nice to see another phoenix gold man out there as well. too much kicker around here for my liking lol. nice score as well, for two subs, but thats what to expect from pg. thatnks for the info as well, so do you think my spl will suffer a noticeable amount from inverted mounting. i'm not really looking for big spl, just pretty much what i'm getting from my 2 10's. i have an epicenter coming as well, do you think that will correct any problems from this style of mounting?

As shadow said, the box will be bigger because the speaker displacement will no longer be a factory in the box. So the bigger box might decrease the SPL depending on where the box is tuned, unless the box is too small to begin with, then it could very well help your SPL.

He also mentioned another key thing: Make sure that nothing will be obstructing the woofer. A hole that is slightly to small could pinch the surround greatly decreasing travel.

All in all, if everything is done right, it shouldn't effect SPL or SQ.

With that being said, I do have ask shadow what he means by "rta the woofer" and what effect that has on SPL.
