I was thinking about getting a new deck, still eclipse but it will be an in-dash unit. Anyways I dont wanna lose my 8volt pre-outs but i dont wanna pay the extra $1600 to get the unit with 8V pre-outs. So I am wondering if anyone has ever swapped or modified the internals on there deck so the pre-outs were 8volt. I am guessing that it is just a different set of electronics on the board that produce the 8volt pre-outs so if I use the pieces from the more expensive deck into the deck with lower pre-outs it should just swap in?

Anyone ever thought about doing this?

That sounds pretty scary to me... I probably wouldn't attempt it...

Easier to just add a line driver... or why not just use the speaker outputs ???

yeah I know the easy way out but I was wondering if this would be as simple as swapping a couple parts inside.

To be more specific I am probably getting an AV3423 and the model above it which has the higher pre-outs and 5.1 etc is like $1600 more. So I figured if i could somehow get the pre-out internals from the AV8533 and put it in the 3423 that might work.

My easy way out is just get a half DIN eclipse EQ that has a built in line driver and crossovers.

My guess is that would be way too much work. It would probably involve a different silicone chip (with potentially different pins that might not even slide in and out with the old chip) as well as bigger caps and resistors to allow for the larger current supply.

I think there is a reason the higher end deck is that much more expensive - if it was a simple electronics swap I don't think there would be that much of a price jump.

the main reason its $1500 more is because of the DTS and 5.1 surround sound.

Why don't you buy the blt from eclipse, it only costs $150...then it converts he 8v to a 16 v?

the BLT only works with certain 8V decks. Also it doesnt convert it to 16V pre-outs its just 8 volts balanced.

Contact Eclipse and ask them. If the change out is as easy as you think it is, you might be able to special order what you want from them for a couple 100 more and then you wouldn't void any warranties by attempting your own mods.

It never hurts to call and ask.
