u only need a solenoid (actually called battery isolator) if the battery at the back isnt the same as the one at the front. and if that is the case then you are doing it backwards anyways.

always have identical batteries at the front and back. put another 2400 ( battery btw) under the hood. or if you only have two 2400's to play with, get rid of the battery that's under the hood and put one of the 2400's there. ground them to the frame as well to each other, as well as the amp.

a weaker battery at the front will get killed either way, isolator or not.

the more runs of wire you will install, the more they will defeat the purpose if you have an isolator on all of them.

you can use batcaps if you are made out of money. those things are really good but pricey as hell.

look at Hawker and NSB batteries.

i believe and this coudl be wrong if you have the same batteries you don't need a soleniod, but if you have say a mastercrap and a kinetik (2 different batteries) you need to use a soleniod set up!

you asked shouldn't the relay be in serial connection with the soleniod?... isn't that how it is in the diagram?

HU->relay->soleniod->back batteries

the relay is there to TURN on the soleniod when the HU turns on.

is that what you were asking or did i miss my guess? if i did sorry!
Well in the diagram You have a red wire running from the battery to the solenoid switch and a red wire from a battery to the relay, and that will be parallel connection.

And my batteries will be no-name batteries, one for my car (front) and the back one preferably with long amp hours maybe truck battery. I don't get how they can drain each other (Voltage difference?) But if something i have a 200amp relay and I will be shutting them off when I get out every time. Simpler.

Now regarding to the ground that runs from the back to the front battery- frame seems to be a better (less resistance) conductor then the cable, so most of the charge will still go through the frame, making that wire quite useless (again this is theory, I never tested that).

oo in my diagram it show

front -> soleniod -> back batteries using 0/1 gauge wire
it also shows
front -> relay -> soleniod using 20awg wire!

hope that clears your question up, keepp in mind i don't know if my diagram is correct but maltesechicken seems to think it is so i don't know! the small relay will tell the big relay when to turn on! and the small relay gets told to turn on via the HU!

Should I be using a solenoid setup? Does anyone use a solenoid or a battery isolator/regulator?

One more fast question, the more runs I have going off of the front battery will require more solenoids? Correct?

thanks for your time
Kenneth

p/s here is a little diagram of how I think it should be setup, if this is incorrect please let me know!

Sorry I am not a very good at making picture with paint, the bottom right hand corner are suppose to be 2 Kinetik HC2400 batteries hooked in parallel, and yes I didn't include a returning negative wire from the 2400s to the front battery!
FYI, Princess Auto has their 120A battery isolators on sale May 5th to the 17th. This is the diode type, not a solenoid so it has no moving parts.

but i though that these type of isolators have a voltage drop? is this correct?

and is this the isolator you are talking about?

battery isolator | Charging Accessories | Electrical | Truck & Trailer | Princess Auto

Yes that's the one. They have about a .6 volt drop so if your alternator is charging at 14.4v you will end up with about 13.8volts. Not a big deal in my opinion but if you're all about SPL you might prefer a solenoid setup.
