Vehicle: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT
Goals: Maximum trunk space, spare tire access
Equipment: 2 Planet Audio 10" DVC subs, each in their own boxes (aprrox. 1 cubic foot) / Two amps, probably Tsunami, sorry I don't have measurements yet

Lets hear what you got!

So far I am going to be making an amp rack where my cargo net is....

Post up some suggestions...

Thanks!!!

1)You should be able to get a foot of airspace after displacements on each side of the rear of the trunk. Take back the carpet and you will uncover some more space in there.

2)Use the spare tire well as the enclosure and throw the spare in there on long trips. Or, put covers on the subs to protect them and mount the spare in a cool looking cover and mount it over the subs. Raise it up a bit so it allows for some air movement but it would be stealth.

Do you want to hear some my suggestions??
LOL
Sorry...couldn't resist!
Seriously,I like the idea of the amp rack where the net is...
Are you going for SPL or SQ?And when I ask this I ask not in the meaning of possible competition, but rather that some people go for loud because thats how they like it...
The answer to that question is sort of the pivot point on deciding sub placement.
Are you going with 'glass or MDF for your enclosures? This too has bearing on sub placment.
If going for SPL,I would go for an enclosure mounted under the rear deck, basiclly a small wall.I would have it possible angled up slightly to get some reverb off the trunk lid.
I going for SQ,I would build a small 'glass enclousre in each rear corner of the trunk facing forward.I would possbily blend in the amp rack with the enclosures as one unit across the back of the trunk area, painting it body color.
I don't know..maybe I am way off on my ideas, but these are things I would look into myself..
Good luck to you!

Thanks for all the ideas!!

Glass is out of the equation for now...too expensive. I am more of an SQ guy, now that I am older

The carpet may be coming out in certain places...

Again thanks for the ideas!

If you really want to maximize trunk space go for a free-air/infinite baffle set-up or you could go for an aperiodic membrane.
With both of these all you really need is a baffle to mount the subs to - no space is consumed by a box.

Click on my webpage icon - that will take you to my SD page and you can see what I've done.

I have a Tercel (9.3 cu ft trunk space) so I too wanted maximum usage of that space. My single pioneer wants 4-6 cubes ported. I built a baffle wall in my trunk and installed the woofer. This brought my trunks space down to 9 cu ft even. I ran the numbers through winISD, and came up with the best tuning frequency - 28 hz. Because my trunk is acting like a big box, there is a slight power spike from 27-31 hz, but I have never noticed anything.

Key things for my install to work. - Expandable foam in every hole. When I first installed the baffle I played to hear how it sounded - the bass began to roll off around 80hz. Went to town with expandable foam, I put it into every nook and cranny I could find between the cabin and trunk. Let it sit for an hour or so, fired it up and it ran really well.

The set-up that I have essentially uses the entire trunk as the box. I went for ported because that was the best use of my air-space.

Find the airspace of your trunk (I think its around 12 cu ft) and run the theile small parameteres of your sub through a box building program, to see how they will react in the air space.

Hope this helps. - I don't know much about aperiodic membrane, but from what I've read I would love to try it. I'll search for other posts concerning it.

Here is a the post that first taught me about aperiodic membranes. I still don't know enough about them to try it, but I would love to learn more. The post also has helpful links to other sites. I didn't double check the additional links, hopefully they still work.
