newer gm radio's

ok i have a nav unit out of 2004 caddy xlr, the wiring diagram shows a 12 v constant and ground and no acc but it shows a serial data connection. I believe the serial connection is what turns the newer gm radios on kinda like the 12 volt acc. my question is if i want to put this into an older gm vehicle, how would i connect it so that the unit fires up?

You would completely gut the wiring out of a caddy xlr, and spend thousands of hours putting that wiring into your older GM.

so theres no way to manipulate the serial data connection?

that would be correct, the car's BCM tells the deck through the data bus to turn on, also gives the deck the VSS signal and most likely the GPS signal as well...
