No rear speakers
Hey guys,
Been looking for a solution to this problem for a little while and I stumbled across this website, looks pretty cool, so I thought I'd sign up.
I just installed an amp and sub into my 4runner today, the sub sounds great but I'm not getting any sound out of the rear speakers now. The deck is a sony CDX-GT300, I have the rear out set to sub out, and I've tried messing around with the fader and all that kind of stuff. I'm not sure if it's just the deck or if I'm doing something wrong. I'm pretty new to car audio installations so any help would be appreciated.
Thanx!

I looked up you sony deck ($133.25@techtronics.com) and here is one of the listed "features":
Rear out / Sub out switchable
That means you have a choice, either/or, not both
If you want rear speakers as well as front, you could use a 4 channel amp off the front pre-out, or low power off the deck directly @22 wrms.

I'm inferring that your rear speakers were working fine up until you installed your new amp & sub, and then they stopped working altogether.
Try changing the settings on your deck. First, take the front speakers out of the picture by moving your fader all the way to the rear and keep it there until you've completed the following tests:
1. Switch your sub completely off (from the deck) and check if you're getting any sound out at all out of the rear speakers. Sometimes vehicles' rear speakers have a crossover built in to the wiring (such as an inline inductor, or choke) that only allows the rear speakers to play low frequencies. You may think that the rear speakers are not working, but they might be playing at a low level (bass frequencies only) and your sub is simply drowning them out.
2. Try changing the pre-out settings on your deck. Go to the option that allows you to select "Rear" or "Sub" for your pre-outs, and change it back and forth. I'm not familiar with your particular deck, but it might cut off the rear speaker output when certain settings are used.
If neither of these tests helps you, it's possible that you inadvertently disconnected your speaker wires when doing the installation. Check connections at both ends to see if any speaker wires have come lose.
Hope this helps.

figured out the problem, Beau, one of your suggestions was correct, and I never would have figured it out without your help. There was a crossover, apparently when I cut the remote wire to run a new one to the rear it cut out the crossover. So I added that wire back into the equation and bam it worked.
Thanks for your help!
