Noob question about Astro speakers
Hey folks,
I just had a Kenwood professionaly installed in my 2002 Astro Van, (it's my work truck). Sounds good, but still only two speakers. I was wondering how easy it is to install rear speakers? Are the wires already in place at the back of the van, or do I need to run wire to the unit, (in which case I'll just take it in again)?

Try opening the panel where the rear speakers would be, or look at the harness behind the deck and see if the wires are there, alot of vehicles have one standard wiring harness and they just put in the right pieces as per trim model. Hopefully they are, but since its a work truck it should be too hard to wire in some rear speakers.
Thanks red.
When I mentioned to the installer my wishes for some rear speakers, he did say the wires should all be there. So i guess they are. I see a cluster of coloured wires at the back doors, but no ends. Are there universal colours to separate audio lines from lights and other things? Really, I should just get them to do it, but I'm a cabinet maker, so I was kind of looking forward to doing it myself.
Edited: I did remove back door panel and saw an end of a wire with a coupling/plug, but assumed it was for an optional wiper or something.

My experience with cargo vans has mostly been with Fords, but the wires have usually been there when I've looked. The wire colours should match the ones leading away from the dash, if the door ends have plugs with different coloured but similar looking wires running into them, those are probably the ones you want.
Not many cargo vans have rear wipers.....unless you buy a new one and order it specifically.
Unless you decide to run large power to the rear speakers, just use the factory wiring....even with the open inside walls, running fresh wires is still a PITA.
